I am quite sure Hextall never addressed that skating issue awaz. Oft times, his approach just appeared to be like: Oh well, let me throw a bunch of names up on the all and see what sticks" sort of insanity. Now we have reaped the consequences of those scatter-brained ideas. There is a reason other teams out-skate the Flyers! And you nailed it awaz. Because they specifically chose/choose available players who can skate circles around the competition and the Flyers didn't and have not!

Like i said addressing players with top end speed talent is not easy when you are drafting lower middle of the first round every year and the one year we had a top pick we let the one of the top skaters in the draft go to Colorado. They worst part about Hextall drafting was not only did he draft players who weren't great skaters he drafted small players so now we have no size and no speed and certainly by looking at our organization agility was never addressed either.

I think it's a problem at the organizational level. Flyers scouts and stuff, most of which stick around from GM to GM, seem to think skating is an easy problem to fix. You know what would be better than fixing someone's skating to make it passable though? Finding guys that can outskate their opponents already and make them even faster.

If I ran a hockey team, I would only have players that are plus skaters. I have no interest in below average or even average skaters. If you can skate circles around the other team, the rest of it is so much easier. Maybe it was different in the 90s when tackling was essentially legal and nobody ever got to their top gear, but in today's NHL? Just another area where the Flyers are stuck in the past.

We all complained countless times over the years that it looks like the Flyers aren't trying. And that other teams just flew by them like they were standing still. It's because they can't skate. Other teams are free to do as they like because the Flyers can't keep up with them. Can't win games with that kind of deficiency. Look at the guys that have been their supposed best players too. Giroux, mediocre at best skater. Voracek, powerful skater, but slow. Couturier, on the slow side. Hayes, sometimes it looks like he's not even moving. Schenn's knock was skating too. Simmonds was decent when he got going, but wasn't scaring anyone with his skating.

I can't think of a good offensive forward the Flyers have had that was a legitimately good skater. Maybe Gagne? 20 years ago? Carter probably counts and is more recent.
All too painfully true

Do you think he can teach them to skate too ?
Definite NO

McKeown spent the last nine seasons with Port Adelaide FC of the Australian Rules Football League in Adelaide, Australia. With the club, he was the head of high performance.

Here goes WTFC again believing he is smarter than everyone else in hockey.

I just wonder how familiar this new wellness executive is with hockey related physiology. Last I saw Australian rules football, they weren’t on skates. How many groin issues do you hear about in any football league ? How many core muscle issues ? Hip issues ?

WTFC thinks he’s leapfrogging everyone with his brilliance, and all the while he’s just sitting under a toadstool. Or maybe he just is a toad’s stool.

Sonofabitch has a pretty high opinion of himself, purdue, that everyone else can see is not based in any authentic and dynamic results on a consistent basis but just WTFC being a legend in his own mind. He is going to fool around that Torts may eventually get in his face and confront the dumbass outright which needs to be done by somebody otherwise we have Hextall all over again. Hextall 2.0, re-packaged!

I need to get with the writers for the Flyers. They have to be on some wicked good drugs to try and spin this as a positive up coming season. Some of the shit I've read, I know the author had to be on Acid!

Their drug might be under the table payments. Screw journalistic integrity.

I’m sure the Flyers provide more access to the writers that shed a positive light.

Definitely a hallucinogenic to think this team is going anywhere anytime soon.

According to the Athletic we have the 37th best Player/prospect under 23:

37. Joel Farabee, LW, Philadelphia

22 years old | 6 feet | 164 pounds | Shoots left

Drafted: No. 14 in 2018
Skating: Below NHL average
Puck skills: NHL average
Hockey sense: Above NHL average
Compete: Above NHL average

Analysis: Farabee played big minutes for the Flyers this season and was a regular on both special teams. He’s a highly intelligent and competitive forward. Farabee makes a lot of plays and has very good individual skill to go with his playmaking. He can beat you with skill or with his work ethic, regularly winning a lot of battles. He isn’t that physically imposing or fast though, but everything else about his game is good enough that he can be a legit top-line winger for a long time, even though I don’t ever think his scoring totals will be massive.

And the 54th:
54. Cutter Gauthier, LW, Philadelphia

18 years old | 6-foot-3 | 200 pounds | Shoots left

Drafted: No. 5 in 2022
Skating: NHL average
Puck skills: NHL average
Hockey sense: NHL average
Compete: Above NHL average
Shot: High-end

Analysis: Gauthier has the tools that can make you easily envision him in the NHL. He has a thick 6-foot-2 frame and can skate like an NHL player. With his size and speed he can overpower opponents to force turnovers or in how he attacks the net and it makes him an asset on the PK. Gauthier can create with his skating and skill, but his main offensive weapon is his shot. He can pick corners from distance with a powerful wrist shot. I didn’t love his playmaking early on but that part of his game grew on me as the season went on, especially how he made passes on the move. I see a potential very good top-six forward whether at center or the wing with a chance to pop and become a true top-of-the-lineup type.

78. Cam York, D, Philadelphia

21 years old | 5-foot-11 | 172 pounds | Shoots left

Drafted: No. 14 in 2019
Skating: NHL average
Puck skills: NHL average
Hockey sense: Above NHL average
Compete: NHL average

Analysis: York was a top player for his AHL team as a 20-year-old, and ended up getting a lot of games with the Flyers. York’s value comes from his offense and puck-moving game. He has great skill but doesn’t often lean on it, opting to be more of a clever puck-mover who makes the right play all the time with flashes of higher-level creativity. Defensively he’s fine due to his brain and good-enough mobility. He competes hard enough but isn’t overly physical. He projects as a second-pair defenseman who can help a power play.
