Won't be much of a challenge, just like JVR, big dude but scared of any physical contact. Being that big you gotta grind down defensemen and take the puck. Both do neither.
Such a shame when you see little guys that bust their asses playing above their weight.

I don’t think you can coach “heart”

TK is an example of playing with heart but when you are the only player doing so especially at his size it got a little old doing it all by himself. Ill also give credit to Farabee as well but he did it haphazardly trying to fight heavyweights and got destroyed a few times before he just abandoned that strategy. Another player who tried to play with heart and got no help.

What sticks out to me, year after year, is just how many of the Flyers young players have the same question mark. Skating.

Farabee.. "isn't that imposing or fast"
Foerster - poor skating grade plus "It all comes down to skating with Foerster, as he has a choppy stride"
Zamula - "Combine that with a heavy skating stride and I see a 3rd pair dman"
Wisdom - "He's not that big or quick so I don't know how much upside he has"
Brink - "I think he can be a top-nine NHL winger, but i can't say I feel overly confident about it due to his skating"
Desnoyers - "He's not the biggest or quickest forward so I'm unsure if the he he plays will work in the NHL"
Ginning - "I question whether he has the mobility or puck skills for the NHL"
Kaplan - "His feet are heavy"
McLaughlin - "His skating and play away from the puck aren't as strong though"
Samson - "His skating is the only thing that may limit him from becoming an NHL-er"

16 skaters mentioned in the article and 10 of them have knocks on their skating in their profile.

Does the Flyers organization realize that if you can't skate it is very difficult to be a good hockey player?

We have a host of medium to bad players and many of them are smallish and like you stated awaz, problems with skating. WTFC has been characterized as attempting to get the Flyers out of this Hextall-generated mess but no one (including WTFC) seems to know how exactly that is going to happen. So it'll probably take another 3-5 years to get back to where the Flyers should have been all along if Hextall wasn't such a jackass.

I agree with this 100%. Strong skaters is a skill we lack throughout our system.

Do you think he can teach them to skate too ?

Lets just hope he can keep what we already have on the roster healthy. Guys are going to have to learn to skate better thats one of the
reason they play minor league hockey is to get better at their craft. Most famous player who couldnt skate a lick when he came up was Chara and you see what he turned out to be.

I think it's a problem at the organizational level. Flyers scouts and stuff, most of which stick around from GM to GM, seem to think skating is an easy problem to fix. You know what would be better than fixing someone's skating to make it passable though? Finding guys that can outskate their opponents already and make them even faster.

If I ran a hockey team, I would only have players that are plus skaters. I have no interest in below average or even average skaters. If you can skate circles around the other team, the rest of it is so much easier. Maybe it was different in the 90s when tackling was essentially legal and nobody ever got to their top gear, but in today's NHL? Just another area where the Flyers are stuck in the past.

We all complained countless times over the years that it looks like the Flyers aren't trying. And that other teams just flew by them like they were standing still. It's because they can't skate. Other teams are free to do as they like because the Flyers can't keep up with them. Can't win games with that kind of deficiency. Look at the guys that have been their supposed best players too. Giroux, mediocre at best skater. Voracek, powerful skater, but slow. Couturier, on the slow side. Hayes, sometimes it looks like he's not even moving. Schenn's knock was skating too. Simmonds was decent when he got going, but wasn't scaring anyone with his skating.

I can't think of a good offensive forward the Flyers have had that was a legitimately good skater. Maybe Gagne? 20 years ago? Carter probably counts and is more recent.

You dont have to go back to Gagne as we have had Jake Voracek for 10 years as a great skater.

When you are picking in the middle to end of the first round this strategy is easier said than done.
