12 years of brutally inept management. It's already been 12 years of shameful disgusting moves. 3-5 years more? An entirely lost generation of philadelphia hockey.
Such a bad feeling knowing that all that time has past and we still havent figured out how to put a top team team together

There are times throughout a game when he’ll coast the sides and look disengaged from the play. This may be due to being at a level above everyone else, but it’s raising some concern about his lack of participation in every play. His back-checking is a work in progress, as he tends to stay behind in an attempt to catch the opposing team off guard

Hmmm ????

Now, if we could dump JvR and sign either Gaudreau or Forsberg, we could very soon be a serious contender.

Well, there's only one more year of JvR. I'm sure we could dump him by giving up an extra pick if we really wanted to. Hayes will always be considered overpaid with this contract, but I think he can earn a lot more of his paycheck moving forward. He's going to be a lot better when 100% healthy under Torts.

The 5 million for Deangelo takes the place of the Ellis LTIR money so we save 1.75 million but we still have too much money committed to defenseman
I am beginning to think Ellis may be done. Without him, there will be 7 dmen making $25 mill. It is a weak group to make that much.

If nothing else, JVR will bring a 3rd rounder at the trade deadline.

Hmmmm sounds just like another left wing we already have on the team.

Not done, but it looks like he will start the season on LTIR, so we want to avoid a repeat of last season.

I think he's done. It'd be pretty mind-blowing, even for the Flyers, to spend a 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, and then 5Mx2 on Deangelo to be a 3rd pair guy. Sucks obviously, because I think Ellis could have really helped them. But if he retires his cap comes off the books since the deal started at 27ish (rather than 35). The defense is then back to where it was supposed to start 2021-22 except it's Deangelo instead of Ellis.

I hate to do this, but we finished dead last in the '06-'07 season and should've therefore drafted 1st overall in the 2007 draft. That was some guy named Patrick Kane (Chicago luckily jumped from 5th to 1st). Instead, we draft JvR 2nd overall, a guy who has never put up more than 48 points in a season for us. Years after trading him to Toronto (where he had a couple better seasons), we re-sign him to a silly, 5 year, $35 million contract. And now here we sit with one year left of him at a whopping $7 million.

Meanwhile, Patrick Kane is better than a point per game player, having put up 84+ points in a season six times and surpassing 105 twice. He's won 3 Stanley Cups (one at our expense), a Calder, an Art Ross, a Hart and a Conn Smythe. He's a franchise-type player that probably will get moved and win another Cup elsewhere before he retires.

Watching the draft last night, I pretty much wish we were Chicago and had an actual plan to rebuild instead of a patch job.

Loading up on Americans in the draft.

Following the Fletcher script. Americans, Americans, and more Americans. Not saying it won't work out, but what are the odds that an American is the best player available 90% of the time Fletcher drafts someone?

I haven't read too much about the later round guys. But it sure looks like 'take the biggest American available' has been their draft strategy this season. Not exactly encouraging IMO.

One of these days the Flyers brass will pull their heads out of their asses and notice that skill/speed wins in today's NHL.

This is pretty alarming when you sit back and think about it:

But looking at the big picture, in the last year the Flyers have now traded a first-rounder, three second-rounders, a third-rounder, a fourth-rounder, Shayne Gostisbehere (in a salary dump) and Robert Hagg for the services of DeAngelo and Rasmus Ristolainen.

you beat me by 8 minutes on this post. The article talked about the Flyers poor asset management. This tells just one of many sad stories.

Yep. I was thinking about something similar. They added assets to move Ghost and now 2 years later we have a RH version of Ghost that hits a little more in Deangelo at a very similar cap number. So they traded two 2nds, a 3rd, a 4th, and a 7th to have Deangelo instead of Ghost. :gaah:

Even taking the Ristolainen portion of it out, it doesn't make sense. And Ristolainen is the worst part of the story.

We literally could've kept Ghost and Hagg, then drafted 6 more prospects instead of now having 5 years of Risto at $5.1 million per and 2 years of DeAngelo at $5 million per.

We're behaving like a competitive franchise that is in the midst or on the cusp of winning Cups. The problem is, we finished with 61 points last season, 4th worst in the Nhl. In the previous abbreviated season, we were just an average team that missed the playoffs.

Chicago is going to tank the upcoming season. Strategically, given the supposed strength of the 2023 draft, that will be a very wise decision for them at the end of their rebuild.

...and here is the same trade from the Hurricanes perspective...

The Hurricanes signed DeAngelo at a point when his value was practically subterranean for $1 million. They put him in a position to succeed, in a quiet market where he could rehabilitate his image. They didn't intend to re-sign him -- for financial reasons, for character reasons, or maybe for both -- and turned him around for a second-round pick in 2024, a third-round pick in 2023 and a fourth-round pick (101st overall) in 2022 that they used to draft Forsmark, a big body who projects to be an NHL player down the road.

Great asset management.

I may have just missed it - but I didn’t see torts on stage or at the draft table. Not sure what protocol is, but if I’m the ceo of the flyers, I want my coach there.
