...and here is the same trade from the Hurricanes perspective...

The Hurricanes signed DeAngelo at a point when his value was practically subterranean for $1 million. They put him in a position to succeed, in a quiet market where he could rehabilitate his image. They didn't intend to re-sign him -- for financial reasons, for character reasons, or maybe for both -- and turned him around for a second-round pick in 2024, a third-round pick in 2023 and a fourth-round pick (101st overall) in 2022 that they used to draft Forsmark, a big body who projects to be an NHL player down the road.

Great asset management.
I called for us to sign him to last years team and was shouted down on this because "DeAngelo was bad for the locker room" We couldve had him for peanuts last year.

Yes you did, and I was one who was against it because of locker room dynamics. My bad (I think) based on what he did on the ice and no apparent poisoning of the canes locker room. And based on how the Canes bought really low and sold high - it was an absolute home run for the Canes.

Its quite the opposite with us as we buy high and sell low. :tsk:

Following the Fletcher script. Americans, Americans, and more Americans. Not saying it won't work out, but what are the odds that an American is the best player available 90% of the time Fletcher drafts someone?

I haven't read too much about the later round guys. But it sure looks like 'take the biggest American available' has been their draft strategy this season. Not exactly encouraging IMO.

One of these days the Flyers brass will pull their heads out of their asses and notice that skill/speed wins in today's NHL.
From a quick look up, they are all listed as having good speed. At 18 years old, they will keep growing and hopefully don't slow down.

Here is how the DeAngelo trade works out.

The Flyers acquired defenseman Tony DeAngelo from the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for a fourth-round pick (101st overall, used on Simon Forsmark) in 2022, third-round pick in 2023 (the lowest of Philadelphia's three picks) and a second-round choice in 2024.

So WTFC thinks deAngelo plugs the D-man hole created by Ellis being toast.

This allows WTFC to go for Forwards this draft. He can spin a story, but I think this just firmly embeds us to the bottom third tier.

I do hope I’m wrong.

Ah, right on queue. Anyone else full of faith that the Flyers are right and everyone else is wrong?

It brings me great pain to admit, but you were right on the money on this one.

Comcast is going to turn this program into a shit show. I mean we had AV as a coach, pretty good Pedigree but was probably not involved in getting players he wanted, therefore development suffered, I can see the same thing happening to Torts.

I hate to do this, but we finished dead last in the '06-'07 season and should've therefore drafted 1st overall in the 2007 draft. That was some guy named Patrick Kane (Chicago luckily jumped from 5th to 1st). Instead, we draft JvR 2nd overall, a guy who has never put up more than 48 points in a season for us. Years after trading him to Toronto (where he had a couple better seasons), we re-sign him to a silly, 5 year, $35 million contract. And now here we sit with one year left of him at a whopping $7 million.

Meanwhile, Patrick Kane is better than a point per game player, having put up 84+ points in a season six times and surpassing 105 twice. He's won 3 Stanley Cups (one at our expense), a Calder, an Art Ross, a Hart and a Conn Smythe. He's a franchise-type player that probably will get moved and win another Cup elsewhere before he retires.

Watching the draft last night, I pretty much wish we were Chicago and had an actual plan to rebuild instead of a patch job.
I'm pretty confident that the Flyers would have won the cup against the hawks if Kane was a Flyer and JVR a hawk. That draft position swap was brutal.

Yep I guess when you are bad you may as well grab any potential talent you can and hope for the best. I didn't think the guy would be as good as he was for the canes so i was lukewarm. Hopefully he can continue to play to that level and he'll be well worth the price. If anything one more solid year and he will fetch even more!

I think that's fair to say. He had 28 points in 22 playoff games (1 point behind Toews, who won the Conn Smythe) that postseason, including the Cup-clinching goal in overtime of game 6 against us in the Finals. The fluke goal that nobody but him knew was a goal right as it was scored and shortly thereafter too.

Pretty amazing what that Flyer squad was able to accomplish, actually. Made it to overtime of game 6 of the Cup Finals (as a 7th seed that barely made the playoffs) with a trio of Boucher, Emery and Leighton in net and really no truly elite level forwards.

However, the main reason his value rose is the fact that he was on a stacked team in Carolina. Tough to say what he would've accomplished on our 61 point team in Philly that battled big injuries to key players for the entire season.

Hasn't started to skate yet. Sounds chronic.
I mean, doesn't Nashville owe us some kind of compensation if Ellis plays literally only 4 games for us after the trade!? That's some kind of bullshit. You mean to tell me that this "chronic" issue occurred entirely after the trade!? I think not.

I would absolutely argue that he shouldn't have ever been medically cleared to be traded in the first place.

Definitely no one looked great on the Flyers last year that's why everyone is being questioned now but I will admit that Deangelo played a lot better than I thought. If he was still on the rags they may have went even further. Guy knows how to move the puck and QB a PP.

Good question but I doubt it Philly would have had to clear him so it's on their medics.

Then I don't trust our doctors that cleared him either. How could this guy develop a chronic, multi-layer injury to his groin while having played just 4 games with us!?! Furthermore, he hasn't played a game for us in 8 months. So what exactly has he been doing for that entire time!? It seems like he's been in the exact same spot health-wise for many, many months with little to no progress.

Ellis and Provy were about to be a perfect top pair for us and then this all exploded in our faces. Completely wrecked.

Quite of few some bodies hiding a bunch of shit that now is being uncovered. Don't know if he is aware of it or not but Torts is walking into very covered-up shit-storm and I am quite certain more will be revealed that primarily Torts will have to clean-up as time marches forward.
