The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed veteran defenseman Kris Letang to a six-year, $36.6 million extension, general manager Ron Hextall announced Thursday.
Is this for real? Letang has to be finished in his career, no? Injuries and age alone will not complete 6 years imo.

Yep Mall, it is for real and every time I see it in reporting, I still shake my head in disbelief. This is the kind of stupid shit, devoid of any logical reasoning, Hextall did frequently when he was the GM with the Flyers.

Hopefully cap hell is in their future. As of now 18 players signed with $15 mill space.
Malkin, Rakell, Rodriguez are UFAs
Kapanen and Heinan are RFAs

Maybe Hextall is trying to ruin their franchise to make up for ruining ours.
Why should we be the only ones lol. Maybe he'll put their organization back into a tailspin pre Crosby.:hope:

BOOM! Size matters:) good pick.
Can't go wrong they need some size up front and this will help. Could have went D but I can see the need for a potential C.

Pens are on crack Letang will be 41 with his mobility in decline already. I was happy to see this thanks Hexy!

This team is going nowhere fast. "Hey we need defense", Okay let's draft a forward we can't use for 2 years! Oh well at least I have the Avs to look forward to. Another horrible pick by the management monkeys.

You realize this kid won't play for at least 2 years?

Next year is a waste anyway. So only the 2nd year really matters. We’re 5 years out
Not at this rate, but this in no way addresses anything we needed IMO. What happens if Ellis shits on us and we have to ride his horrible contract out, I'd rather have an insurance marker instead of a could be player.

Yep I wouldn't say 5 years but they aren't winning next year but I think he can play the year after if ready. Only committed next year.

Given his mature build and physicality, Gauthier feels like one of the more NHL-ready players in the Draft class. Even if he’s expected to report to Boston College for at least one year, it’s increasingly likely a team will call his name in the top five, if not higher.

Idk how we're going to score goals next season, but otherwise, I expect to see a huge improve on 61 points with Torts in charge and a healthy roster. The defense should be much better all over the ice, therefore Hart will bounce back big time. We'll be very difficult to play against, but will have to score by committee.

Love the USA hockey pick of Gauthier 5th overall. I would've liked to get Cooley, but we just weren't high enough to make that happen.

I am warming-up to the Gauthier pick. He is one of the bigger players taken in the top ten of the First Round. I think under Torts, this kid may thrive. I want to see what the Flyers do the rest of the way beginning in the Third Round.

I think the question entering next season is how much more Torts can get out of every player that we'd consider to be overpaid on this roster. Obviously everyone brings up Hayes and JvR, but it's also Provy, Risto, Ellis, Sanheim, Konecny, Atkinson and Farabee (with his new contract). That and what will we get out of some of the young guys just coming up?

What we could really use is a dynamic, goal scoring winger for the top line and power play. Right now, the salary cap is pretty much preventing us from signing or acquiring that guy.

I was really hoping Seattle would have gone D. Anyway, we drafted a big kid (he will get bigger), that can skate and has a sniper shot. He is going to play Center in college. Already said he wants to play 1 year in college and then sign. I also saw where he may be able to play PK. Hopefully his success want a function of being a man playing against boys.

Anyone that was happy to beat Pitt with a couple of games to go last season cost us Shane Wright, let that sink in.
