Well something had to happen may as well be now. I'm not sure if Danny is the best guy for the job or not but it doesn't hurt to turn over every stone. This team needs someone very capable to turn things around. I'm just hoping that the young guys will have gained a lot of experience from the ice time this year. Get some guys back and maybe we'll see more improvement next year.
It's tough. We're without a 2nd round pick for the next two drafts and for what? We're not even a contending team...Lol

I do think we will be better next season even if guys like Hayes and Provy get traded in the offseason. It's because the trio of Couturier/Atkinson/Konecny that has missed most of this season is basically our top line and also some of our youngsters are looking really good.

So, next season we're getting a whole top line back healthy, plus another year of growth from guys like Cates, Tippett, York and Frost.

Right now our best hope is to slide from the 7th worst record in the Nhl to the 4th worst, which would give us a 9.5% shot at the #1 overall pick. I don't think we're catching Chicago (11.5%), San Jose (13.5%) or Columbus (18.5%), which is really a tragedy. We should've been one of the three worst teams in the Nhl this season, but I think (thanks to Torts) we played too hard to get there and (thanks to Fletcher) we had enough depth to stay competitive but not enough to contend.

Dave Scott and unknown advisors behind all of this. He stays, flyers suck. The guy is purely a numbers guy. Numbers guys do not have winning teams.

I think it's safe to say that Chuck Fletcher was the worst GM in Flyers history and I don't even think it's close. Hextall at least stocked the cupboard w picks. Clarke did some good things, but always overpaid and loved using NTC on contracts, much like Homer did. Fletcher did nothing right, furthermore, he's set this franchise back for years imo. Briere is coming into a disaster. Like Mav said above, we don't have any 2nd ro in nders for 2 frigging years. We have barely enough picks to build anything decent, let alone in cap hell.

Basically, we need to get a franchise player (or two) out of the next three 1st round picks (one this year and two next year). Would be great if it were a legit top line forward (sniping winger or playmaking center) and top pair defenseman that can do it all. The Giroux trade is looking pretty decent for us right now, at least. Tippett should probably be one of the top candidates on the roster to have a breakout season next year and the 1st/3rd round picks we acquired in that deal are all that is saving us from having not enough picks in the first few rounds of each of the next two drafts.

Marek and Friedman say they’d be surprised if Briere is not the next full time GM. In addition to Lindros, Olzcyk, and Pronger they mentioned Ray Whitney, Shane Doan, and Robert Esche as people that could be of interest. Friedman says he doesn’t think Dean Lombardi will move in to the President role.

Said there’s a ton of interest in the President/GM jobs in general. And spent a bit talking about how the flyers want to really change things and go about building the team the proper way, not just playing whack a mole with their issues.

Also of note, they discussed the potential of a Hart trade this summer. They said with 1 year left on his deal and the team staring down a full fledged rebuild, might make sense. Could get a huge return for him.

We may be looking at a huge decision for the Flyers to make. I think a lot of people say Michkov is the #2 talent in the draft, but he’s signed until 2025 or 2026 in Russia. Plus the Russian factor.

If he falls to the Flyers, would they take him? Flyers don’t have much of a history with Russians and it’d be a heck of a time to start. But it seems like he has the talent to be ‘the guy’ and they don’t really need him for a couple years.

Bedard, Fantili, or Michkov would be a heck of a way to start the rebuild though.

I liked what I was reading until you said "Hart trade." I'm ONLY okay with that if we get an absolute HAUL of picks and prospects in return. I truly feel Hart is an elite goalie, we just aren't responsible enough with the puck in front of him and also we can't score any goals...Lol Sort of makes his life difficult (or a living hell). I hope he has patience, because he will need it here in Philly. That said, I want to keep him unless the offer is too rich to ignore. If that happens, we might as well trade away everything of value that won't be here long enough to see the full rebuild.

Also if they really are going to focus on developing players, Lappy needs to get fired asap.

Honestly, all of my gut instinct tells me NOT to draft a Russian that is in such a position, regardless of the talent level. Way too fucking risky.

Yep. I’m skeptical of a Hart deal working out long term. Maybe keep him this summer but wait to re-sign him and see what things look like at the deadline next year?

How fitting that the Flyers spend 30 years looking for a top 10 goalie and they finally get one when the rest of the team is in total shambles.

Absolutely. Fire him and find some better people. Don't just hold onto him because he's a good guy...Lol

That’s where I am too I think. If it’s like 6-7-8, that gets to be a real hard decision though. Don’t get many opportunities to draft that kind of talent that far down the board.

The fucking irony of it is truly unreal.

Our other goalies look good too, at least recently, but it's not enough of a sample size to think that they can suddenly be our future #1 and #2 goalies sans Hart.

I was thinking that trading Hart may be the ideal thing to do for the reason you mentioned. It's ashame that we as fans may not see this young star in the making grow with the team that drafted him. It's truly frustrating to watch this continue. The damage is done. It amazes me how these guys like CF continue to have jobs in the NHL.

It just depends. If we don't like anyone else on the board as a difference maker in the future at that stage of the 1st round, then go for it. The Russian factor definitely turns me off though.

To me, a firesale will result in us dressing a team full of 18-20 year olds. Yeah, they will probably have a lot of skill and talent, but there's no guarantee that the squad will ever elevate into actual contention. Then we're the Arizona Coyotes in a few years...Lol

Ya, I don’t think that’s necessary either. Like the Hawks trading guys like Dach last season is just over the top. I don’t see why you’d trade guys like York, Tippett, or Cates. I’d rather not move Hart at this point too I think. But I would pretty much be looking to move Hayes and Provorov. Listening on Sanheim. Probably listening in Laughton, but I think they keep him and give him the C. And I think you move Konecny. Outside of Hart, he’s the other guy you can get a kings ransom for. And I don’t think his age fits the timeline. Sucks, because I really like TK, have since before they drafted him. But that’s the ‘hard decision’ I think they have to make. If you draft/develop well you could turn a TK return in to 2, maybe even 3, top of the lineup guys.

I also think you have to use the money that's freed up from JVR to package a solid DMan or a legit offensive guy to help put up some numbers. Next year shed more older contracts for younger/ more talented players. Some of this youth could grow pretty quickly under Torts, I feel he and Breire will be more in sync.
