I'm hoping to say goodbye to JVR, Hayes and Braun by the end of the day, anybody else is icing on the cake if it's a good return.

From the Athletic:

Whose season is more concerning: Travis Sanheim or Joel Farabee? And how concerned should the organization be about that player? — J C.

Fascinating question. Both Farabee and Sanheim have delivered very disappointing seasons, and there’s a case for either one “winning” this debate.

With Farabee, the argument is simple. The worry is that this season is a sign that he’s not actually a good player at all. We’re talking about a player here who has one truly impressive scoring season — his 20 goals in 55 games sophomore campaign in 2020-21. And despite his two-way reputation, Farabee has never once graded out as a positive play-driver — in 2020-21, he posted an exactly break-even 0.000 xG RAPM impact, and that’s the best he’s delivered thus far. He’s now in his fourth NHL season, and right now, he looks like a thoroughly ordinary player. That is concerning.

The worry around Sanheim is more contract-based. Sanheim has a much longer track record of above-average work than Farabee — he’s consistently driven play from the back end, and has two 30-plus point seasons to his credit without much in the way of power play time. We know Sanheim can be a good player. But now, the Flyers will be paying him $6.25 million per year for eight years starting in 2023-24. And he’s been downright awful this season, by every objective metric. If this is the version of Sanheim that the Flyers receive during the length of that contract, he’ll be a massive albatross on their cap into the next decade.
Farabee’s excuse for his season is solid, however: due to his neck surgery, he didn’t really have an offseason. Not only was he unable to make gains in terms of strength in the offseason, he couldn’t even pack on the necessary weight to avoid the inevitable losses that come with a demanding NHL campaign. Sanheim’s excuse? Basically, that he’s just having a one-off bad year, and that his track record should provide confidence that this isn’t his true talent level.

Personally, I’m not super worried about either — I still believe in Farabee’s upside and think Sanheim will shake this season off. I’m expecting both to be much better in 2023-24. But I’d probably be more worried about Sanheim, mostly because of the albatross potential of his eight-year, $50 million contract if he is in the midst of an irreversible regression. That would be devastating for the Flyers’ future.

Nice to see Eric Gustaffson being traded to the Leafs at the deadline.

He has 38 points

The cap actually doesn't concern me that much at this point. Now that they've said they need to chase youth. That SHOULD mean that they stop spending future cap on deals like Sanheim's and Risto's for a few years. While they're doing this youth movement thing, they won't need cap space. Doesn't sound like they're going to outright tank, but presumably they won't be chasing playoff contention with expensive vets either. So after a few years, the cap won't look as nasty. Atkinson will drop off. A decision will get made regarding TK. Hayes and Risto will be more in the 1-2 years left category and more moveable if they haven't already been moved. Then you just have Couturier (who is hopefully still good) and Sanheim on the longer/expensive deals. It'll be interesting to see what they do with Hart who is an RFA in 2024.

Means a few years of mediocrity at best. But at least it should clear up the cap a little and add potentially valuable younger guys. Trying to thread the needle by looking for game breakers AND trying to compete at the same time was the biggest problem to me. If they drop part 2 of that, things should get better (less Risto/DeAngelo type moves). Might be charting a course similar to Hextall depending on what they do with guys like TK and Couturier though. Gunna need to draft/develop better than Hextall if they want that to be successful.

Oilers looking for a defenseman and we have Braun just waiting to go to a contender.

Can we just get a 2025 3rd or 4th rounder from them and get the rebuild started already!

Look at this disgusting shit:

We gave Arizona a 2nd and a 7th round pick to take Ghost off our hands.

Today, Arizona trades Ghost to Carolina for a 3rd round pick.

So, Arizona got 2nd, 3rd and 7th round picks just to dress Shayne Gostisbehere for less than two seasons.

We gave up that 2nd and 7th just to get rid of the fucking guy and they flipped him for a 3rd...Lol

It’s so much worse too because they felt they had to send a 2nd, 3rd, and 4th to Carolina for Deangelo because they need a PP QB after they moved Ghost.

Stunningly inept. Blows my mind that he continues to have a job given that complete mismanagement of assets. Two 2nds, a 3rd, and a 4th to do absolutely nothing to improve the team.

And you can put together an argument that it’s not even his worst move (Risto fiasco).

Pisses me off to even think about this shit.

We essentially traded two 2nd's, a 3rd, a 4th and a 7th to "upgrade" from Ghost to DeAngelo (who many consider the same player) and then Ghost ends up bringing back a 3rd to Arizona after we paid them even more just to take him from us.

It's mind-blowingly bad for our franchise.

We could've kept Ghost and gotten a 3rd for him now like Arizona just did. Then we save those FIVE other picks...LOL

You know when you see worthless Ristolinan on the ice in o.t. to act as a practice pylon so the Rags can score an easy goal, that's when you know the team doesn't care anymore.

How did things get so bad. This is an absolute embarrassment. Remember the days when our building was a tough place to play
