All I'm trying to say money wise, with Hayes/Deangelo/Risto in particular, is that the Flyers are going to struggle to add significant salary (aka superstar free agents) with those guys eating up as much money as they do playing in the bottom half of the lineup. So why not maximize the time you have by loading up on draft picks and trying to find stars in the draft? Even if you don't purge the roster, I don't think this team is better than 50/50 to make the playoffs for a few years. Even if they do make the playoffs and go out in the 1st round, does that experience gained get them close to cup contention? Personally, I'd rather load up on picks/prospects to come out the other side with a young team full of potential than to stay the course with this group of players.

Doesn't have to be an out and out tank. But they should be trying to have multiple 1st round picks in the next few drafts. 2024, they do. Can they figure out how to get another 1st in 2023, the supposed deep draft? They have to draft well and develop well, agreed. More lottery tickets increases their chances though.
It's a tricky road to travel. We already blew our shot at tanking for this draft. I don't necessarily think it's wise to have a team full of 18-22 year olds either. There would have to be some leaders in the room who know what they're doing at the Nhl level.

I'm just encouraged by the fact that we largely have a competitive team this season, and with less talent/skill on the roster than last season, which was an absolute shitshow. So, any infusion of talent moving forward (Couturier, Atkinson, A player signed or acquired etc.) or any growth from a younger player is money in the bank for next season.

We will equal last season's record of 25-46-11 if we finish out this season 2-20-1. So, for those of us that want to tank, there's still hope!!

Quite frankly, given the time missed by our top players this season, we should have far and away the worst record in the Nhl.

Basically, there's something to be said about the coaching change and a team that just shows up almost every single night and won't go away. Despite the obvious lack of talent, I respect the way we play and how we are often able to overcome adversity against teams with multiple elite level players.

Last night, not only was Noah Cates shutting down Leon Draisaitl, he scored on him to give us the early lead. Call him a 3rd liner all you want, that dude is a gamer. I'd take a bunch more of him.

I would also definitely be concerned that if we traded away guys like Konecny or Laughton, they'd just go on to win a Stanley Cup elsewhere and we wouldn't get enough in return for them anyway.

If we keep playing hard every period every night, we may just surpass Washington to whom we are tied with having 59 points. We are close.

Ok the writing is on the wall for Fletcher. At what point do we just get him out and give Briere the reigns?

Preferably a year ago. In lieu of that, today at lunch would be great.

If I were to put money on it, next summer. I expect he'll do the minimum sell at the deadline (JvR, Braun, and I think he will move Seeler). Then I think he moves Provorov this summer to make room to sign someone like Monahan or Domi to be 2C behind Couturier (or long shot, Larkin if Detroit doesn't get him re-signed). Then sign someone like Kulikov as insurance in case York/Sanheim can't hold down both top 4 LD spots. Or maybe Klingberg as a reclamation project to maybe help on the right side. If he can find a taker for Hayes, that frees up room to try for someone like Orlov instead. I don't think he gets a Hayes move done though, it'd need to be too creative for Fletcher.

Then I think he buys at the deadline next year, potentially even moving one of the 2024 1st rounders, but the team comes up a couple points away from the playoffs. Then ownership pulls the plug on Fletcher after missing the playoffs 4 years in a row.

Wow i agree he goes this summer too. The wow part is you have all of our moves planned out through the deadline of next year. That's a little far down the road. Lets keep watching this season and enjoy the product we have now starting with 2 points tomorrow against Montreal.

Haha just some guesses based on how Fletcher and the rest of the front office seem to be going about things. They don't seem convinced they can't 'fix it'. Biggest steps to fix it they need a 2C (behind Couturier) and some help on defense. So those were my guesses at how they'll address those.

I think Couturier/Atkinson being out for the season while still being a good bit better than last year, will get him another season. The FO doesn't think they're in a dire situation. I think Fletcher gets the boot in summer 2024 when they finally realize it.

Everyone knows JVR is going to be traded. Why is he still dressing for games? Its not like he's out there increasing his value ? Just make him a healthy scratch so he doesn't get hurt and we can finally rid ourselves of this franchise killing player.

20. Joel Farabee
Left Wing, Philadelphia Flyers
Age: 22
Stats: 59 GP, 9 G, 17 A, 26 Pts
Contract: 5 more seasons, $5 million AAV
Scoop: Surprise, surprise. Farabee is one of the biggest surprises to hit the board this season. Sources say Farabee’s camp has voiced their displeasure to the Flyers as to how this season has unfolded under coach John Tortorella. Things came to a boil when Farabee skated just 3:52 in Calgary earlier this week. Farabee is a talented kid but has struggled this season after undergoing artificial disk replacement late in the summer, which limited his training. That prompted Tortorella to say he wasn’t going to “let Farabee hide behind that,” which didn’t help. He’s also played on the fourth line. The Flyers don’t want to trade Farabee at his lowest value. There is no formal trade request made from Farabee’s camp, but they’re seeking answers on a solution, especially since it’s clear that Tortorella isn’t going anywhere.

Huge trade to pump up their bottom 6 and their defense. Dammit the rich get richer.
The Bruins get 2 expiring contracts for their playoff run while Washington gets a 1st, 2nd and 3rd for 2 expiring contracts in a year that they are below average. Chuck needs to learn from the Washington GM. The top teams are already making moves and trading picks. Sit JVR and move him now. With JVR gone and TK out, the prospect rotation can start.

Not watching tonight, but Twitter has not been kind. 5-1 Habs lead and sounds pretty low energy from the flyers. Booing from the fans. Farabee/Sanheim benching and post game media scuffling, plus some bad losses piling up. Feels kinda like this could be a powder keg situation.

Was a pretty bad game all around. Showed a little life in the 3rd, Tippet scored early and we were tilting the ice until, lo and behold, a bad pass turnover by none other than DeAngelo leads to another goal. The holes in this roster are really starting to show.

I will say, I've been pleasantly surprised by Tippet. Super direct player, good skater. Not a real good sign when he's your best healthy skater, but he's been good at least!

Tippett could definitely be a star in the making. He can really shoot the puck and fly out there too. Has a lot of speed and power to his game when he gets going. I also think his 17 goals in 55 games is underrated when you consider who he's playing with and the amount of ice he's getting (16 minutes per game).

That's the only positive from last night. I missed the first period, but on every goal against, I'm seeing our defense overplay guys at the wall, in the corner or behind the net, which leaves the precious ice right in front of our net WIDE OPEN. WHAT THE FUCK is going on here!?!

I'm still trying to figure out how Provy was only -1 in this game. He was on the ice for the 1st goal against. He literally deflected the 3rd goal against top shelf beautifully for an own goal. Okay, so that was a power play goal. He was on the ice and very much out of position for both the 4th and 5th goals against. Dude was literally guarding nobody while two opponents scored from right in front of the net, one via deflection. He did score a goal in garbage time, but this may be the beginning of the end of Provorov in Philly and it hurts me to say that. I guess he must've just somehow been on the ice for literally 6 of the 7 goals scored in this game...Lol

I also noticed that Provy threw his arms and hands up in celebration when he scored. Uh, that made it a 2-5 game with a minute and a half left. Wtf are you celebrating for, my dude!?!

Travis Konecny wouldn't have celebrated that last one with exuberance. Actually, I'm pretty sure most all of the team wouldn't have. So, there are team players and guys who are more about themselves and their own accomplishments. Which one is Provorov, because I'm not sure right now?
