Okay, so when all is said and done and we finish a couple of games above or below.500 where does that leave us at the draft table? Still gotta lot of needs.
Right now, it leaves us with a 5.0% chance of picking 1st, 5.4% chance of picking 2nd and very likely 64.4% chance of picking 9th overall.

Based on the strength and depth of this particular draft, I think we can get a good player at 9th. Oliver Moore, mentioned by Awaz, will probably still be available.

The simulator I'm looking at has us taking Brayden Yager, a Canadian center with Moose Jaw in the WHL, 9th overall.

Admittedly though, it is painful not to have a 2nd round pick in this draft. Perhaps we can get one at the deadline.

Seravali also said the release stated he was a "tenacious flyers fan".

Could be nothing. But maybe it's something!

Maybe the start of a long over due shakeup.

Certainly looks like an outsider. Philly guy through and through, but an outsider to Flyers-world.

Well, I fully support this move 100% in that case.

Amazingly, this current, no-talent squad that has a horrific power play and can't score is just 8 points shy of being tied with Washington for the final playoff spot (with a game in hand too).

Last season's version had the additions of Atkinson, Giroux and about 30 games each of Couturier/Brassard and finished with only 61 points.

This team has 54 points with a whole 27 games left to play...Lol

Regardless, thanks to Torts for changing the culture of this team and I can't wait to see what he can do with more weapons at his disposal.

From the Athletic goalies under 25 and not established as a top 2 goalie on their NHL club:

9. Samuel Ersson, G, 23 (Philadelphia Flyers — No. 143, 2018)
July 2022 rank: Not ranked

Ersson’s statistical profile has always been a little bit of a roller coaster to follow. There was his excellent post-draft season in HockeyAllsvenskan and internationally which established him as one of the top goalies in the 1999 age group. Then he made the jump to the SHL full time at 20 and played a surprising amount on a poor team to mixed results. Then he played to strong results in his second season in the SHL. Then he finally got groin surgery after dealing with a nagging issue and lost almost all of his first season in North America. And now he has returned and played quite well in both the AHL and NHL in what is essentially his rookie campaign over here.

He isn’t a particularly big or powerful goalie but he reads the play well, holds his angles, and then has the agility needed to get to a lot of east-to-west pucks to make difficult saves. He has also worked on his habits so that he can stay more compact and controlled in the net and it has noticeably cut down on how many shots are cleanly beating him. He has moved his No. 2/3 projection to a potential 1B projection with his play this year, I think.

22. As mentioned on the pod, I’ve heard there’s been some talk around Nick Seeler. I can see it: nice contract for another year; low-maintenance guy who plays hard on your third pair. But I don’t believe the Flyers are in a hurry to do that, either.

Surely that's just trying to talk up his value right? If someone wants to give the Flyers something for Seeler they can't seriously consider keeping him?

Im hearing a lot of teams are very interested in Seeler for the reasons you mentioned. I would also hate to lose him for the reasons you mentioned.
We are in rebuild mode and if we can get a pick for Seeler he has to go and i hope fletcher realizes this.

So what compensation should Flyers fans expect?

Yes, van Riemsdyk’s massive $7 million cap hit makes striking a deal, even if the Flyers (as expected) retain the full 50 percent allowed, difficult.
Most teams could, if sufficiently motivated, make the cap work. But it might involve include a third team to retain even more salary, or the Flyers taking back an unwanted cap hit to maximize return. Plus, if a buyer wants to make multiple deadline adds but has limited cap space van Riemsdyk might be less attractive, given his remaining cap hit could swallow up the bulk of a buyer’s deadline “budget.”

JvR’s price tag does complicate negotiations. But those involved shouldn’t lose sight of a simple fact — van Riemsdyk can still play and help a playoff-contending club.

Given van Riemsdyk’s production this season and over the past three years, the “fairest” return would probably be a second-round pick. That’s what Fletcher and the Flyers should be aiming for in negotiations. But it’s certainly possible that his large price tag — combined with just nine goals and four power play points this season — makes that an overly ambitious ask. Still, it would be tough to accept anything lower than a third-round pick, especially given that tough guy Deslauriers and pure defensive specialist Johan Larsson brought back that value at the deadline just last season. And if Fletcher can only swing a fourth-rounder — the same he got for Brassard in 2022 — it would be an extremely tough look given the underwhelming comparables in that tier.

A first-round pick as the centerpiece is almost certainly out of the question for JvR. A second would be a tidy piece of business. A third would be passable given the circumstances but undeniably disappointing, while anything lower than that (without other useful pieces included) would be extremely difficult to swallow given JvR’s quality as a player and superiority to forwards who in the past have brought back returns in that range.

My guess? JvR ultimately brings back something in the second/third round pick middle ground, with conditions deciding where it lands given playoff production and games played thresholds. Given comparables and van Riemsdyk’s cap hit, that would seem to be the “fairest” return for him. In two weeks, we’ll find out if that is indeed what he brings back for the Flyers.

Agree 100%. Perfectly suitable 3rd pair guy, good contract. Not a hole the Flyers need to concern themselves with right now. Maximize the draft pick coming back.

Well summed up I think. I'm hoping the Flyers can take back an unwanted salary from someone to get it as high on that range as possible.

If we could get a 2nd round pick i am going to be doing a happy dance. I would think we could retain even more than half his salary to get up to a 2nd rounder.

Unfortunately 50% is the max. Otherwise, most definitely. Eat all of it if they could haha
