And even a trade isn't some guarantee of making any noise in the playoffs. Both our teams do not look anywhere near contending no matter what moves are made.

It's early to say that without knowing what trades end up happening (and what other injuries lol). Like I said earlier, most of the West is treading water near .500 over the last 10 games. The teams at the top have main players that just missed long stretches with injuries, anything can happen.

Most of the West is inferior to the East for starters. And I'm saying it now, neither GS or LA is making a deep run in the playoffs no matter what deals happen.

But I agree there's a lot of parity in the West especially

Man, I wish Lebron got the treatment back in the day like Giannis does. Holy shit.

He always did

See that series vs Orlando that they worked so hard to make the Cavs win

Would you have projected the Warriors to do so last season? Surprises can happen.

I knew they were one of the contenders that definitely could win, along with 4-5 other teams. This year the 4-5 contenders do not include GS or LA.

As always, future injuries can change the equation, not betting on that though.

The lakers gave enough salary and picks to basically redo their entire roster if they want

They could be unrecognizable by Presidents’ Day if they really wanted to

Funny, because I don’t think that is true.

Superstars used to play their whole careers in places like Utah in the 80s and 90s.

That rarely happens now.
is that your argument? Thats it? Guys move all over. Dwayne Wade played in Cleveland.

1. Back in the day- only certain teams were on TV- literally- you would get a national Lakers or Celtics game on a Sunday and little more than that. Now everyone can watch every game

2. The big markets used to have a huge financial advantage. Now they dont- in fact- the biggest factor on team spending is ownership- not market.

3. In order to get big advertising dollars you had to be in a big market back in the day. Now- even more than a decade ago- the 2 biggest marketers in the NBA money wise were in ORLANDO and CLEVELAND.

Those 3 advantages- national exposure, advertising cache, team spending that all used to heavily favor big markets - GONE- VANISHED.

I can add more if you like- but those are the first 3 that come to the top of my head.

Do we have any evidence taxes matter for this? Orlando and San Antonio never sign big FAs.

Remember state taxes are due on games you play in other states, so a player in Texas only gets a little more than half his games free of state income taxes.

This year? Boston and Milwaukee seem like the top 2 closely followed by some mix of Brooklyn, Denver, Memphis, and Philadelphia IMO. Could be talked into adding a team or two like Phoenix or even Cleveland.

Orlando signed mcgrady and hill in one offseason and were allegedly seconds from Duncan

They did land rashard Lewis when he was one of the top FAs out there

I have no idea why they’re not a destination anymore

Taxes can matter. Carlos Lee explicitly signed with the Astros years ago because of the lack of state income taxes

They should

But obviously it depends

I would keep Beverly anyway since he’s due for positive regression to the mean

But I think there’s a path to them actually being a finals threat with the right moves (and health obviously)

My guess is Orlando hasn’t really been good or relevant since they traded d12 anyway and don’t have that anchor star to recruit other good players

Turning Russ and picks into Conley plus is a good start

Nunn Jones Christie and a pick for like Josh Richardson

Might seem small but those can really move the needle since you’re turning half depth into playoff rotation minutes

The last 6 games he has made 57% of his FGA's and 47% of his treys. He MIGHT be starting to find his groove on offense.
