On off is closest to me but like you said if your backup is absolute trash you're going to look that much better.
Why defense is so hard - it’s only quasi-individual. In the NBA, you have great individual defenders but they all have to play within the context of the team scheme. For instance, Giannis is a great on the ball defender. But what his team needs is for him to be the “cover” on the worst offensive option on the floor so that he can hedge and cheat on the ball or protect the rim or do whatever Bud says they value having the extra man on that particular night. How do you measure or quantify that impact he has? Same thing with on/off. There are 4 other guys with him when he’s on, there’s 4 other guys with his replacement when he’s off. You just can’t attempt to do individual catch all statistics and assume it tells the story.

Like it or not, people lean on stats. The three simple defensive stats are rebounding, steals, and blocks. He's #1 in 2 of those. They try to go deeper in other stats to further flesh out his impact or lack thereof, but you scoff at those even more.

A key stat would be points/rebounds allowed to your position IMO. Who prevents their opposite number from scoring/rebounding the most.
I don’t care what people want to do. At one time people were convinced that the world was flat. They were all wrong. I’m not signing up for fugaze bull shit because that’s what people want to do. When anyone watches Jokic play and they come away thinking he’s anything better than a marginal defender it just dismisses them as an person worth engaging with when it comes to basketball.

Sure, but with what the focus is here (Jokic), help d at C isn't as common to stand out (unless at the extremes or playing undersized).
Is rim protection not help defense?

Weakside D as a C is huge.

That's rim protection.

I like what the Thunder are building but I want to see the twin trainwrecks against Jokic

No crying/bitching about the refs, Austin Reaves or the Lakers until the Thunder are eliminated from the playoffs.
I will have you know last night I gave credit to the refs, it was a well officiated game.
