If he can push the Nuggets to a final the narrative shifts. And everyone can please stop acting like his lack of playoff success relative to other multiple time winners isn't a factor.
He’s been as far as Embiid.

So, his perceived lack of success isn’t a factor to me.

If that was one of my hang ups, I would pick Giannis…

Which some voters likely did.

Imo, If jokic hasn’t won the last 2 he’d have won this year going way

You believe he’s been that much better?

I honestly don’t.

The truth, at least in my eyes, is that it could have been either of those guys, or even Giannis, for the last 3 Seasons.

It was a complete toss up.

It's not him vs Embiid in that regard imo

It's him vs Russell/Chamberlain/Bird

He didn’t have his 2ns and 3rd best player
^^^narrative used to explain away not having homecourt in round 1
And the analytics showed he destroyed eveyone
Analytics are stats that are rigged to present a value system...often by some mathematician, not a person close to the sport. So again...that's narrative
And he did it again this year
And will also finish behind Giannis most likely. Jokic basketball is a nerd's errand. All he's done is highlight how limited these analytics are. In what world is Jokic an all-time world-class defender like some of these metrics present?

Those posted numbers? Only if you're looking at ppg. Of course, we all know the other side of the coin (defense), lol.
In a later post, I attached the spreadsheet some dude is maintaining of people making their MVP votes public. Here it is as of now:
The 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th place votes are not included for all votes but first place are. Of the 22 votes in so far:
Embiid - 15
Giannis 4
Jokic - 3

Jokic leads the NBA in

Raptor
Win Shares
Win Shares per 40
Box Plus minus
VORP
WAR

In most of those cases it's not even close.

Not even a litlte bit.

Just in PER where he just edges out Embiid.
Makes sense. All of these catch-all analytics prop up the same stats.

No the narrative is trying to use the 6th seed to justify an inferior player winning the award

The eye test means little
You know what else means little?
Dribble handoff made shot = an assist. Essentially you get a stat for setting a screen.
Yet...
A player gets doubled in the post, he passes out of the post. Defense rotates. One more pass is made and goes to an open shooter for a made shot. The player that had the court vision to pass out of the double and start the play doesn't get any statistic out of that.

This is why stats-based arguments are innately flawed and why NBA media have to actually watch the games.

The inferior player has just won two in a row. Why do you want to give the inferior player 3 MVPs in a row?

It just proves narrative > reality

Jokic lapped the field this year

But because he won 2 in a row people aren’t gonna vote for him
Lap the field? bwahahahaha! His team was 7-10 in March and 5-7 when he was on the court.

That's such a false narrative. What happened last year should have no impact on this year. If he deserves it this year, he should get it.

Besides, what "many" think doesn't matter if they aren't voters.

That said, it's pretty safe that he won't. That vote sampling seems pretty clear.
The only way he "deserves" it any of these years is if a person embraces a foolish consistency in adopting stats created by mathematicians like Nate Silver? How good is Nate, day of the election in 2016 he still had it 97.3% that Hillary would win the election.

Well, if we're being fair, Jokic has been to a WCF.
Yeah it was in the bubble
Yeah Jamal Murray had 2 50 point games and 4 40 point games to carry his fat ass
But he still made it.

Like I said we are taking this relative to other 3 time winners

This a world where lebron James and MJ aren't 3 time winners. The voters did so intentionally.

Not for me.

I”m not a big analyctics Gal.

I keep it simple.

Embiid is the better scorer.

Embiid is the better defender.

Embiid’s team won more games.

I’m not anti-Jokic.

He’s a monster.

Joel is just a tad better, TO ME, this season.
I would vote Embiid and I voted for Jokic earlier in the year
