Recognition, yes.

That is what Embiid was referencing.

Not saying I agree, but it is a fair question.
Is that why he thinks he missed out on MVP?

Yikes.

Euros had to go thru people underestimating their skills as well.

One of those MVP loses can be directly linked to his injury history.

Alright, I will jump in here.

“African” and “African American” are not the same thing.

Embiid is literally talking about players with personal heritage from Africa.

And in my experience? Having coached 3 former players from Cameroon and hearing college coaches talk about them like they were Danny Ferry?

I can’t say he is wrong.

There appears to be a stigma around African born players in basketball circles.
I don’t even know if that is true or that isn’t true. But…I remember our Raptors guy pointing out that Pascal Siakam’s numbers this year have always resulted in an All Star game berth up until Siakam this year. He was later an injury add but initially overlooked. Siakam is also from Cameroon.

Did Hakeem experience that?
Maybe I’m remembering things wrong and maybe it’s a product of him being in NY as a Knick but I think about Ewing vs Hakeem and there is no question Hakeem was the better player. However, it seemed like Ewing got more press and notoriety. Like I said…not a great comparison because of the NY factor and it’s the largest market in America.

He tucked tail and ran.

Okay.
Keep talking out your ass. I corrected you and you posted a lame image. That's you running. All I did was eat Dinner afterwards.

Ewing is Jamaican.

So, totally the NY factor.

Not exactly. It's why he doesn't care about MVP anymore. He used to as a foreign player exposed more to American media rather than American culture. One that idolized that kind of personal achievement, but he learned that it doesn't matter and to care about what he can control.
