Considering that the Giants will most definitely be buyers, I thought it would be good to create a thread specific to the trade deadline (July 30th).

As of today, there are 7 teams that are at least 10 games out of both their division races the 2nd Wild Card spot. There are another 6 teams who are less than 10 but more than 5 games out of both races. However, most of them have not decided (at least publicly) that they are going to sell, buy or stand pat. So, for the purpose of this exercise, I thought it would be good to focus on the 7 teams at the bottom of the races. Here they are, with the names of players who will be free agents this offseason or next offseason:
Baltimore Orioles (26 games back in AL East, 21 GB in Wild Card) - Matt Harvey, sp; Maikel Franco, 3rd; Freddy Galvis, ss; (2022): Chris Davis, 1st; Trey Mancini, of; (2023): Pedro Severino, c
Minnesota Twins (13.5 GB in AL Central, 12.5 GB in WC) - (2021): Alex Colome, sp (1 option); JA Happ, sp; Michael Pineda, sp; Hansel Robles, rp; Andrelton Simmons, ss; Nelson Cruz, dh; (2022): Jose Berrios, sp; Tyler Duffey, rp; Taylor Rogers, rp; Miguel Sano, 1st (1 option); Byron Buxton, of
Kansas City Royals (14 GB in AL Central, 13 GB in WC) - (2021): Wade Davis, rp; Danny Duffy, sp; Jesse Hahn, sp; Greg Holland, rp; Ervin Santana, rp; Jarrod Dyson, of; Jorge Solar, of; Michael Taylor, of; (2022): Mike Minor, sp (1 option); Hanser Alberto, ss; Carlos Santana, 1st; Andrew Benintendi, of; Whit Merrifield, of (1 option)
Texas Rangers (19 GB in AL West, 15.5 GB in WC) - (2021): Jordan Lyles, sp; Ian Kennedy, rp; Joely Rodriguez, rp (1 option); Brock Holt, ss; Charlie Culberson, of; (2022): Kohei Arihara, rp; Mike Foltynewicz, sp; Kyle Gibson, sp; Jose Leclerc, rp (2 options); Joey Gallo, of
Pittsburgh Pirates (19 GB in NL Central, 17.5 GB in WC) - (2021): Tyler Anderson, sp; Trevor Cahill, sp; Chasen Shreve, rp; Gregory Polanco, of (2 options); (2022): Chad Kuhl, sp; Adam Frazier, 2nd; Erik Gonzalez, ss; Ben Gamel, of
Colorado Rockies (16.5 GB in NL West, 12 GB in WC) - (2021): Jhoulys Chacin, rp; Jon Gray, sp; Mychal Givens, rp; CJ Cron, 1st; Chris Owings, 2nd; Trevor Story, ss; Charlie Blackmon, of (2 options); Ian Desmond, of (1 option); (2022): Daniel Bard, rp; Carlos Estevez, rp; Scott Oberg, rp (1 option); Elias Diaz, c
Arizona Diamondbacks (31 GB in NL West, 26.5 GB in WC) - (2021): Merrill Kelly, sp (1 option); Tyler Clippard, rp (1 option); Chris Devenski, rp; Joakim Soria, rp; Stephen Vogt, c; Asdrubal Cabrera, 3rd; Edwin Escobar, 2nd; Kole Calhoun, of (1 option); (2022): Ketel Marte, of (2 options); David Peralta, of

Also, there is this article on mlb.com about possible starting pitchers available. I wouldn't be surprised if the Giants do go after some starting depth, considering the injury history of the current 5 man rotation.

Guys from that list we could target:

Pineda
Duffy
Gray

I think FZ adds a starter. Given the up and down seasons of Shimmy, Wood, Sanchy, Beede, Long...we need another experienced arm for Aug/Sep.

My concern with Duffy is that he's recently come back from an injury and the Royals haven't let him pitch more than 4 innings in 4 starts. Its almost like they are having him rehab in the big leagues. However, that creates a possible durability or, even, health question about him.

Sonny Gray is from my town, Smyrna, TN.

He won 2 state championships as a starting QB for Smyrna High School.

Seems a decent sort. I know some of his cousins.

I was seen as a bad guy went he first went up and I was a Giants fan.

One Friday, always a spirit wear day*, we had a "Sonny Gray Day" at the school where I work. I wore a Giants cap and jersey.

I was a monster. lol

* You can wear jeans and a shirt or hat of your favorite team.

It will be interesting to see if the Reds continue their sell off from last offseason or try to stand pat since they are not too far back in the weak NL Central. Guess we'll find out in the next few weeks.

There are a few more teams to add to the sellers' list. The Tigers and Marlins both have dropped below the 10 games back in both races threshold. And while the Chicago Cubs haven't quite hit that threshold, the FO has been talking like sellers recently. So here are the pending free agents for after the 2021 and 2022 seasons. I am not including those who've spent the entire season on the IL. I've bolded those who I think are worth considering:
Detroit Tigers
(2021): Julio Teheran, sp (60 day IL); Jose Urena, sp; Derek Holland, rp; Daniel Norris, rp; Jonathan Schoop, 2nd; Nomar Mazara, of
(2022): Matthew Boyd, sp; Buck Farmer, rp; Michael Fulmer, rp; Robbie Grossman, of
Miami Marlins
(2021): Ross Detwiler, rp; Yimi Garcia, rp; Sandy Leon, c; Joe Panik, 2nd; Miguel Rojas, ss (1 option); Adam Duvall, of (1 option); Starling Marte, of
(2022): Anthony Bass, rp (1 option); Richard Bleier, rp; Jesus Aguilar, 1st
Chicago Cubs
(2021): Jake Arrieta, sp (1 option; 10 day IL); Zach Davies, sp; Andrew Chafin, rp (1 option); Craig Kimbrel, rp (1 option); Ryan Tepera, rp; Dan Winkler, rp; Austin Romine, c (60 day IL); Jaiver Baez, ss; Kris Bryant, 3rd; Matt Duffy, 3rd (60 day IL); Anthony Rizzo, 1st; Eric Sogard, 2nd (10 day IL); Jake Marisnick, of (1 option); Joc Pederson, of (1 option)
(2022): Kyle Hendricks, sp (1 option); Trevor Williams, sp; Rex Brothers, rp; Willson Contreras, c

The Cubs becoming sellers really expands the availability of decent relievers.

I’ve heard rumors of the Gs looking at a package of Kimbrel and Bryant. I’d think we‘d have to give up too much for that though.

Bryant doesn't address some of the biggest needs (unless he is moved to left field).

Is Kimbrel even good in the playoffs? I always remember him meeting down. Even in Boston’s championship year I think he was hot garbage.

He generally has been good in the postseason, except for 2018. That was a bad postseason for him, and it was the year he made most of his appearances in the postseason. His most extensive look was bad but he's been in other postseasons and did fine.

I don’t think FZ gets into the bidding wars for RP. I think he picks up a SP instead and moves Webb/Wood/Sanchy to long relief.

Just my guess tho.

The Twins have indicated that they don't really want to trade any players who will not be free agents after this season. Now I bet that simply means that they will reject all offers that don't bowl them over. So its going to cost a lot to acquire any of Jose Berrios, Tyler Duffey, Taylor Rogers, Miguel Sano and Byron Buxton. Too bad, I liked the idea of having the Rogers twins pitching out of the same bullpen.

I like Rogers, but wouldn’t it be more appropriate to trade OUR Rogers to them instead?
