Because LeBron is in the GOAT convo. So people look to find anything they can to discredit his resume.

To be fair, as thunderc pointed out, I think it's as much about "how" Lebron did it. If he had handled it the way pretty much every other major FA announcement has been done, I'm not sure anyone would still be talking about it.

Add in how outspoken he is in general, and folks are gonna hang on to shit longer.
