I........love you. The hypocrisy is there for sure on ESPN. Don't agree with Nichols for the reasons you stated, well, more I agree with her, she just shouldn't be the one that says it. But others at ESPN get away with far more egregious shit. They'll still have careers.

ESPN has put themselves in an unsustainable situation with how they've handled their employees.
Love you back, cyber boy-toy....lol

why shouldn’t she? It was her career that was affected by quota affirmative action that was certainly not merit based.

not that I would consider Nichols all that great, but clearly better than taylor.
Because a case could be made that she is where she is based on 3 debatable factors:

1. The Diane Sawyer being a relative by marriage

2. Being a female with a modicum of sports credibility

3. Relationships with certain players and/or their representatives

So, stones and glass houses....

I personally prefer Maria. Not because she's black.

But, because she actually played the sport.

In fairness, that's not a prerequisite of the job.

Yup, ESPN has gone nuts. They definitely showed their hand by not disciplining Jalen Rose for his comments about Kevin Love and Christian Laetner. It’s sad really. She will land on her feet I’m betting.
Not just him.

Stephen A, Stephen Jackson.....

Look, I'm a believer in equality and we aren't there yet as a Country.

But, we have to be very careful of how far we let the pendulum swing in the opposite direction.

Equality means we all are treated the same without regards to race, religion ,socio-political status etc etc....

But, that applies to the good and the bad.

If you don't , you are simply transferring the " supremacy " from one group to the other.

You can't ruin this woman... Who has been a great ally for years...just because she hurt someone's feelings.

What she said was hypocritical. But, it wasn't racial and she wasn't lying.

We can't say the same about either Stephen. But, money talks and screamin A apparently brings in the bacon.

So, he gets a pass at ESPN. They are fucking awful.

that’s fine on the glass houses.

I just meant, her career is being affected by affirmative action quota plans. She has every right to speak up.

And espn used jalens hate of laetner to make a whole movie about how the entire country hated that prick

Absolutely.... You are correct.

I would have under the circumstances.

But, @Heatles84 is right as well. It would have been better received coming from just about anyone except her.

Check the receipts.....

ESPN could be trying to fix a diversity issue. And Maria Taylor could be a benefactor of it. If true, Nichols has a point. ESPN could definitely have found a different approach. She claims the NBA Countdown host job is in her contract.

So like it or not, she’s entitled to feel that way. Nevertheless, Nichols is the wrong person to make that claim. And that’s where things get a little interesting.

It’s for one simple reason too. After doing some research, one could argue Nichols has her job because of whom her in-law is.

Nichols’ mother-in-law is legendary broadcaster, Diane Sawyer.

And in case anyone is living under a rock, Diane Sawyer is media royalty. Her name carries significant weight in the broadcast industry. For starters, Sawyer is 60 Minutes first-ever female correspondent. Additionally, Sawyer has anchored Good Morning America and ABC World News Tonight. ABC and ESPN are both share the same parent company, Disney. One could surmise that a phone call from Sawyer goes a long way.

Now let’s connect some dots.

Rachel Nichols and her husband, Max, married in 2001. Three years later, Nichols began working for ESPN.

See where this is going?

If Nichols wanted to move up in her career, is there anyone better than Sawyer to tap for help?

If it is in her contract she has every right to speak up. Closed mouths don’t get fed.

I get what you’re saying, but they basically broke contact with her to get an inferior talent to check off some woke nonsense

There are a ton of recent examples in Sports/ Sports entertainment.

Dumb Ass Myers Leonard vs. Dumb Ass Montrezl Harrell.

I don't necessarily see them as equal incidents.

I can honestly admit that I'd likely feel differently if I were white.

But, both are racially taboo and only one guy got severely punished.

I didn’t even know what Leonard’s word meant until this incident

I don’t even recall what harrell did because it got swept under the rug

and it’s not surprising. Lebron James has admitted multiple times about his dislike for white people

Yeah, I concede.

You have me on the contract stipulation.

To each his own on which one of them is inferior to the other.

She had a contract. So, it's a moot point.

Trezl called Luka a punk ass white boy.

So, Stephen Jackson would have been a more appropriate comparison.

He went on a whole ass antisemetic rant complete with conspiracy theories.

Got called out on it and doubled down on the fuckery.

It was disgusting.

I don't want to overstep by talking about this on the sports thread.

So, I will leave the discussion here.

None of this would have happened if they just put Cassidy Hubbarth in the role a few years ago like they should. She had already been covering the league for years and was the fill in host when Michelle Beadle had nights off.

That is fine too…

But can’t say she is “clearly better” than Taylor. That is opinion.

Both are solid, neither are great. Both benefitted from something other than straight merit.

Just rumors so who know but does seem like with addition of Mobley and need for a wing Cavs might be more inclined to be willing to move Nance, Jr. If true, seems like Memphis would be first call (Brooks or Anderson)

I really like Nance - cue Stripes crowd sarcastically saying "no, no" to Ox when he says he has a weight problem - but have to think his role could be reduced somewhat with Mobley who I would think they hope can do everything Nance can and more eventually (other than shoot, which hopefully he improves as Nance did).

I need nance in Boston.

but his versatility fits so many teams. Dude can switch to like every position.

he’s one of my borderline unhealthy obsessions
