This whole thing with Noel is really sad. I mean it's hard to feel bad for a guy who is still making Millions, but the fact that he could have had much, much more sucks.

While he does get his share of blame, he was only 22 at the time when Rich Paul was whispering sweet nothings in his ear. I can't even remember what it was like to be 22 and be that impressionable. You also have to factor in these guys have had tons of yes men in their corners so that inflates their actual value even more. Its terrible he didn't have someone in his corner to breakdown the pros and cons of this situation.

While I doubt this suit brings anywhere close to the missed opportunity of that 58M, I do think some restitution is coming Noel's way if they do find out that Paul was actively ignoring phone calls and opportunities for Noel. I hope he gets at least some of this money back.

good chance this settles, unless there’s a smoking gun to clear Paul.

he doesn’t want this being dragged out either

Yeah, a lot of these guys need that one friend that will tell them they're full of shit, stupid, etc. But, when you're making millions and people are hoping to benefit from that for themselves...I'd imagine that person could be hard to find.

Especially if you grew up poor and then everyone has their hand out.

my favorite story was how Phillip buchannon, former Miami canes db and nfl corner, after he got drafted into the nfl his mom sent him a BILL for years of room and board

What's funny? You can do math, 30 > 16, that's about twice the competition. The league is full of uber-athletic talented guys, it's not comparable to back in the early 1970s...not at all. So Oscar must be very confused.

What's funny? I'll tell you in a moment. I can math just fine. There were 18 teams not 16 teams in '76. Now back to what's funny. That you seemingly want to diminish accomplishments from the 70's.

But I also remember you saying Russell only played against 6-4 white guys. Which is incorrect. If you're gonna say that about him shouldn't you also say that about Wilt?

Unrelated topic for a moment. Not sure where you're located. If in Ohio will you make it to The Shoe for a game this season?

absolutely the accomplishments from the 70's should be diminished.

the NBA Finals was on tape delay the NBA was so unpopular. It was a league that was in serious trouble financially. It had zero international players. It had a rampant cocaine problem.

today it is a million times more competitive, popular, larger, etc.

The "modern" NBA started with Bird and Magic. Before that it was a nascent league that was just a little bit above being a joke.

can you even imagine the NBA Finals being ON TAPE DELAY?!?!

totally right

imagine today if you took out every international player, cut the league by 12 teams- and a third of the remaining players had cocaine problems, and the league was in dire financial straights, some players having OFFSEASON jobs since they didnt even make enough money-- and the game was so popular that a network wouldn't even carry the NBA Finals on live TV.

liiiiiiitle different today.

Less teams means more competition.

Less teams means more competition.
1. depends on the player pool

2. a shorter playoff makes it easier to win

3. certain teams had huge advantages back then that they do not enjoy nearly as much as today.

at one point in 2007 LeBron James and Dwight Howard--- in Cleveland and Orlando- were the biggest marketers in the whole league. Something that would have been impossible before.

Yes and no.

A lot of guys had jobs in the off-season because their basketball money wasn't enough to get them through the off-season. Back then, it was mainly the star level players that made enough for basketball to be their only job.

So, there were a lot guys who could have been in the NBA but weren't, because they chose careers that wouldn't allow them time for basketball.

I meant in today's league, only 16 teams back then. Watered down.

Uh, you water something down by adding to it, not subtracting. Fewer teams means more fewer places for the best players to go, so you end with more of them on the same teams.

The league became "watered down" when it expanded in the 90's while the talent pool remained virtually the same. It's the main argument used against MJ.

The talent caught back up when the league expanded the talent pool by drafting international players.
