Uh, you water something down by adding to it, not subtracting. Fewer teams means more fewer places for the best players to go, so you end with more of them on the same teams.

The league became "watered down" when it expanded in the 90's while the talent pool remained virtually the same. It's the main argument used against MJ.

The talent caught back up when the league expanded the talent pool by drafting international players.

I agree. But it points to the growth and popularity of the league. In the 70's, as has been pointed out, the league was nowhere near competitive (at least compared to today). Once the league became more competitive and drew in more crowds, growth ensued (like most products).

Yes and no.

A lot of guys had jobs in the off-season because their basketball money wasn't enough to get them through the off-season. Back then, it was mainly the star level players that made enough for basketball to be their only job.

So, there were a lot guys who could have been in the NBA but weren't, because they chose careers that wouldn't allow them time for basketball.

And the guys who were in the NBA didn’t need to train nearly as hard because there was less competition for those spots.

Yes, it was still very competitive. Just a lot less so.

Why espn violated Rachel like that?

because they turned one check the box quota into another and this time Rachel didn’t benefit.

she was incorrectly recorded speaking oht against and solely because of Taylor’s skin color and not any of the actual merits, it became an issue

My :2cents:....

This is not a Erin Andrews type situation.

Rachel Nichols is the one who didn't properly shutoff the camera recording her private conversation. She absolutely insinuated that Maria is only getting those opportunities because she is black.

It was particularly egregious because of what you stated:

Rachel is also a diversity hire.

Is that the SOLE reason they got those assignments? No.

Both were good at their jobs. But, there were others at that network who could have performed as well, or better, that have been there a lot longer. So, it was very hypocritical of Rachel to cry about a system she has benefited from significantly.

With all that being said, ESPN IS TRASH for taking her career. Nothing she said was racist. It was true.

The duplicit nature of ESPN is revolting. Screamin A says repugnant shit on the regular and sees zero repercussions. *see Ohtani. But, This woman lost her career.

Don't even get me started on the fact that they sat on this shit for a full calendar year and only punished her to appease the cancel culture.

This is bullshit.

I........love you. The hypocrisy is there for sure on ESPN. Don't agree with Nichols for the reasons you stated, well, more I agree with her, she just shouldn't be the one that says it. But others at ESPN get away with far more egregious shit. They'll still have careers.

ESPN has put themselves in an unsustainable situation with how they've handled their employees.

why shouldn’t she? It was her career that was affected by quota affirmative action that was certainly not merit based.

not that I would consider Nichols all that great, but clearly better than taylor.

Yup, ESPN has gone nuts. They definitely showed their hand by not disciplining Jalen Rose for his comments about Kevin Love and Christian Laetner. It’s sad really. She will land on her feet I’m betting.
