What was the 4th best draft of all time is the real question.

‘96

Wade is closer to Kobe than Kobe to LeBron, IMO. And both gaps are rather large.

The others are all really good players, but not A1 all time great superstars.

So give me the year with the best player, and that is ‘03.

I rate Iverson, Nash and Ray Ray higher than Melo and Bosh.

That would be my order too

84 is easily the best class…it isn’t close at all.

Hakeem, Barkley and MJ. They could win with flying colors with just those 3. Add in Stockton for shits and gigs

1984:

Four players who made the HOF
Two players who made at least one All-Star game and one All-NBA team
One player who made at least one All-Star game

1996:

Five players who made the HOF
Three players who made at least one All-Star game and one All-NBA team
Three players who made at least one All-Star game

This isn't about which players are better, this is about which draft class was better. 1996 had the overall better selection of players

Add 2003 to the convo then. Will have four players who make the HOF

Four players who made at least one All-Star game. One player made the AS 2X

Still…overall when it comes down to it greatness matters. Also one of the best defensive players of all-time in 84. Once you get past those 7-8 players there isn’t much in both drafts. I’m taking the one that had far great players.

MJ
Hakeem
Kobe
Barkley
Stockton

All of those guys could be considered top 15 players. Throwing in a couple all-stars is only helping your case a bit…I’m taking 84 and most would agree

Yeah I mean if we wanted to go depth by decent all-star players a lot of drafts come into play.

1984 was top heavy. Other than Hakeem, MJ and Barkley, the only other players worth looking into are Stockton and Robertson.

If you were to build a full team of each draft class, have all the players in their prime, and play a best of seven series, i'd take 1996 in probably 6.

Probably. But that would still have them last out of the three groups.

And that is exactly what the conversation is all about. In this case the top 3 drafts.

Feel free to expand it beyond those three.

Not sure what you are looking at to get your info.

Top 4 isn’t remotely close. ‘84 is better by a landslide.

After that, ‘84 also had Robertson, Thorpe and Willis who made all star teams.

Bowie, Perkins, Jay Humphries, Vern Fleming, Jerome Kersey, Charles, Jones, Steve Colter and more who were all high quality rotation players at least.

‘96 doesn’t overtake that because you add in a few guys like Zydrunas Ilgauskas and Antoine Walker who made a couple all star teams.

Plus, if you are actually building a team, some of the ‘96 guys kind of suck to play with. Lots of ball dominant scorers, not a ton of 2 way players.

It isn’t even a conversation between ‘84 and ‘96
No, it's not.

1984 is the cream of the crop.

But, this article lays out a great argument on why some folks think otherwise.

It comes down to what you value most.

1996 smokes 1984 in combined Championships.

1984 shits all over 1986 in how we rank players historically.

Outside of Kobe, how many of the 96 guys can you objectively consider top 20 of all time, let alone top 10?

1984 by a country mile for me.
