what did they get from Holiday, and MCW that actually worked out?

the answer is nothing.

The answer is losses that put them in position to draft stars later.

But MCW was the pick they used to select Bridges.

They just made a really bad choice in trading him for Zaire Smith.

Again, post process bad decision.

His point ( I believe) is by trading Holiday and MCW it allowed them to be in the position to draft Simmons and Embiid because they sucked so much....they did not stay the course

bingo

what people forget about that trade is the 21 Miami pick was the new number one asset at the time and they got jt by dropping back a few slots.

they used it to get Tobias Harris as well.

and zhaire smith was rocked by medical stuff as well.

sometimes there is bad luck involved

they even used part of their mle to sign him.

they must really really like him
The same goes for the kid from Stanford, Zaire something. They were both projected as bonafide lottery picks.

Covid really did fuck up their entire draft process

I was surprised Z boy was drafted that high in the first rd.

BJ Boston is a freak of a player… From what I saw from him at Kentucky vs the SEC, I wasn’t impressed. He has all the ability in the world to get his own shot but is so hesitant that he’ll pass up his wide open shot for ANYONE.

Nice signing by the Clippers

He has all the tools to be a solid penetrating guard that can make the open 3 and dish it out. Kentucky’s season was fucked, and he probably didn’t give a fuck.

Clippers could’ve got that diamond in the rough…

A. it was MUCH different for the Sixers playing when the lotto odds were much more highly stacked. The Cavs actually drafted BELOW their record position 2 out of the last years.

B. Not like the Cavs were good and really trying in the first place.

It is better to have better lotto odds- I know- I rooted for better odds- but it was actually the tie-breaker the Cavs LOST with OKC that pushed them up to #3.

Combine that with at least 3-4 other teams being terrible- and really there is no way you can guarantee yourself being at the top of the draft- even if you tear it down to the studs and just suck. Just ask Orlando or OKC

I mean- if you tear it down to the studs and keep it there for like 7-8 years- you will prob. get 2 chances to get an elite guy.

but- 3 years has been hard enoguh- and you still need time to develop guys.

Plus-

The Cavs starting lineup is probably going to be

1. Sexton- 22 years old
2. Garland- 21 years old
3. Okoro- 20 years old
4. Mobley- 19 years old
5. Allen- 23 years old.

kinda think when your starting lineup averages 21 years old- you arent due to win many games. If I had to bet the Cavs as one of the 10 worst records again this year- I would def. lean in that direction-

and really- if you are in the top 8 in the lotto- you can jump up.

I think NEXT year is when the Cavs take a modest leap. This year- you are developing a bunch of kids- the most important of which will still a ways from being able to drink in a bar.

but ill tell ya- their plan compared to the Wiz is much much better. lol.

and it was great to see Milwaukee win - proves a small market team can still win the NBA championship. Even the Suns just getting there was encouraging. A lot of these big market teams are of course relying on stars- and rightly so- but a lot of times those stars are older, or have a lot of miles on them- and can be injury prone- which is what we just saw.

We were talking about the 6ers.

Your boy @dtgold tried to compare what the 6ers did to what the Cavs are doing.

The 2 rebuilds are nothing alike.
