And the end of your post illustrates why it is just so hard for a city like Cleveland to win an NBA championship.

Even when you do hit your franchise superstar, it is really difficult to get the right pieces around him.

Need a lot of luck to get it done.

Milwaukee and Cleveland prove it is possible, but barely.

Both needed a pretty crazy set of circumstances to get it done. Cleveland with 3 #1 overall picks and LeBron choosing to return, and Milwaukee with an epic rash of injuries during the 2021 playoffs.

It is why the Bucks could take a step back next season if there isn't a bunch of injuries like this season.

But does that matter? Who cares if they are top 5-6 in the East. You build to get stars and you build to win championships. Simmons has stunted their growth and Embiid will be wasted. In the end it’s a fail. Could be a little less wasted if they at least got to one Finals.

My guess is they end up getting Dame. If I were (and I am).

I do have to point out the genius of Philly’s plan though.

They knew they needed a superstar to build around. They didn’t get one right away.

And instead of building around meh pieces, they continued to blow it up on the fly and prolong the tank until they got a true franchise player AND talented young pieces to compliment him.

Most franchises are unwilling to go that far. And that is why most rebuilds don’t end so well.

I mean, the cavs tried to add far better players than Sexton and Garland (well, better, at least) but instead of picking 1st, 1st and 3rd we picked 8th, 5th and 5th. Makes a difference.

Yeah they added Embiid, Simmons was supposedly to be that 2nd star (still damn good) but it didn’t workout that way.

But you also comparing them to kids. All these players on the Cavs are 21 and under. I feel pretty good that Garland can be better than Simmons and actually work to get better every year instead of flattening out. Simmons is a great defender but I would rather have elite shooters first then build around them. If Mobley turns out to be the Cavs “Embiid” you possibly put elite shooters around them. Too early in the process to compare and that’s exactly why I said it coule be 5-7 years. It’s only been 3 years. It’s just going to be more difficult to add a piece like philly did with Harris. They can attract FA’s. If the Cavs do find their star it could be less difficult but don’t count on it. Lebron had nobody for 7 years.

To me, it's not even whether he can get better when comparing the 2. I mean, we picked 5th and 5th as opposed to 1st or 3rd. Finally got a top 3 so we'll see how it plays out.

You are correct..they traded up from 3 to 1 and took Fulz as you mentioned took simmons with another #1. also had a 3 and took Embiid.

Little different than getting 8, 5 and 5.

they gave a Paul George type haul for Tobias Harris.

they didn’t back jimmy butler in whatever way they needed to.

that has nothing to do with being willing to add the right foundational players. Something cavs fans here, and cavs management are not willing to commit to.

Please further explain that last comment. How are Cavs fans and management not willing to commit to adding the right foundational pieces?

That isn’t what the Cavs did at all.

What the 6ers did would be equivalent to the Cavs trading Sexton and Garland for future picks/assets.

Then building around Mobley and hoping you can get a 2nd or 3rd stud to pair with him.

Sure it could happen but the point of the conversation is rebuilsing through the draft. That would mean they signed Harris and acquired Lillard. Their rebuild for having 3 #1 picks has been less than stellar. Embiid and Lillard is what they need and even then maybe no ship looking at the top 3 EC teams.
