2021-2022 Mariners offseason/free agency thread

MLB needs to get off their lazy asses and get this lockout ended but it seems like they are more concerned with going on vacation. This was supposed to be a fun time of the year watching all the free agents signings but MLB would rather be boring and completely irrelevant.

They need to hurry up so we can get back to our usual watching big free agents thumb their noses at Seattle and sign elsewhere.

they cant...this time...and stay....lagit......other wise..the mariners have to join ...the minors...cuz they cant sign no one........

and next years free agents are not as good..as this years.....no..it is now or never...
or start trading

if the mariners are going to be better than Houston....they have to one up them...i think..they are close..with pitching.....or could be by all star break.
they have a chance...to be as good or better....than houston..as far as line up......they have to...go all out....or just re-build again..

and they just got done doing that......no...its now....or never...

if ya dont think toro....can 3b..then they never should have traded for him.........ya know...really...

i believe he can..so im good with him...but i have fan graphed him..and followed him for the last coupe years....

no i really think they need conforto....and just...develop..toro push him a bit..and he will hit 20 to 30 HRs...and maybe a 250 ave..
if they get story..they have enough...infield guys...

and they will be well...stocked..with outfield guys.....

just a maybe...with a guy...like seth beer...yeah ..maybe..a L/L..for tacoma...a 3B/1b./DH..guy...yeah..that would be good..
or a SS..for tacoma...ok..BUT...frick........................... could be ....at tacoma by 1/2 time...maybe..
they will prob just get a MiLB..free agent though...

When clubs spend $40 million or more above the threshold, their first pick is sent back 10 spots in the ensuing MLB Draft. Teams also can receive reduced compensation in the Competitive Balance rounds if their payroll is over a certain threshold, should they lose a free agent.

Can MLB teams trade compensation picks?​

While standard draft selections cannot be traded by MLB clubs, their compensatory picks can be dealt.


It’s an interesting rule, because in the other major sports, draft capital is often used as a significant bargaining tool among franchises.

It’s unclear what the logic of this rule is, but one theory is that compensatory picks are “extra” selections over and above the regular picks, and teams should be able to do what they see fit with them.

• If your team received revenue sharing last year, it will forfeit its third-highest pick. An additional player will cost the team its fourth-highest pick.

Example​

On June 1, 2014, the Marlins traded their Competitive Balance Round A selection to the Pirates in exchange for right-hander Bryan Morris. The Pirates received the 39th pick in the Draft that followed just days later.

A Competitive Balance draft slot can be traded only during a period of time starting on December 2nd and extending up until two hours prior to the MLB First-Year Player Draft (MLB Rule 4 Draft). The slot cannot be traded for cash unless it is a financial adjustment made to offset the salary of one or more of the players involved in the trade. Also, a Competitive Balance draft slot can be traded only once (only by the club that was awarded the pick). Once traded, the slot cannot be "flipped" to a third club.
NOTE: 2020 and 2021 Rule 4 Competitive Balance draft picks cannot be traded beginning on March 28, 2020, and extending through the conclusion of the 2021 draft.

If a player selected with a Competitive Balance draft pick does not sign, the club receives a compensation selection in the next Rule 4 Draft, one slot lower than where the club selected the previous season. There is no further compensation if a player selected with a Competitive Balance compensation draft pick does not sign.

Lazaro Montes (Cuba), Michael Arroyo (Columbia), and Martin Gonzalez (Dominican Republic) all possess the necessary upside to be added to this list when eligible. Montes is ranked #8 on MLB Pipeline’s Top 50 international prospects. The slugger has drawn some lofty comparisons and should slot into tier 3 and could work his way into tier 2 with a successful debut season.
