I may be wrong, but I swore a writer brought up White in his postseason presser and Jerry said he could see him trying to play in the outfield because of his athleticism. I do agree in premise with Jerry wanting Crawford at SS but IMO it would be dumb to not sign a top SS free agent if that guy wants SS. Crawford can either slide to the easier 2B or Jerry could sell high on Crawford at the moment. If all works out to plan, Crawford is the number 9 hitter for the team.I had heard Toro but not White. I do not see any point in putting White out there. He has a defensive position, just needs to hit. Until he at least proves he can hit in AAA there's zero reason to factor him into anything
yeah...i think ..the basic.....idea...for a lot of us is trevor story.....cross your fingers....or whatever....yeah...i think..story at 2B..would go over really wellI may be wrong, but I swore a writer brought up White in his postseason presser and Jerry said he could see him trying to play in the outfield because of his athleticism. All the scuttle bud with Conforto is he wants to be in Seattle and even possibly giving a hometown discount because he wants to come home. But that also means a multi year deal and I just don’t think Jerry is there. Ever time Jerry has been asked about the needs for the off-season one of them is a left handed power bat. And he is the opposite of Cruz where he could play in the field to give days for Lewis and Haniger to DH. But then, there is the JRod issue. Signing him might mean that Jerry has to trade Haniger…preferably for a starting catcher. Raleigh really changed my perception of him in Tacoma last year but he and Raleigh going into the season as the catchers is a big weakness IMO. As of now Raleigh’s role should be backup with the ability to take innings from the starter and Murphy’s role is to figure out how replicate 2018 instead of the rest of his baseball card.I actually didn't take that into consideration when mentioning Conforto.
If I had to speculate, he probably declined the tag so that he could attempt to get a multi-year deal in free agency and if he doesn't, he'd get a one year deal worth around the tag amount he was offered.
This is what MLBTR had to say about it while projecting he signs a 1 year deal worth $20m. I think it's a good take:
There will be teams that happily make Conforto a multiyear offer, crediting his long track record as one of the game’s better left-handed hitters over his mediocre 2021. The guess here is that Conforto will turn down the qualifying offer, find the multiyear offers insufficient, and sign a comparable one-year deal with a new team to rebuild value and shake off the QO. Yasmani Grandal and Marcell Ozuna followed this model successfully. If the Mets don’t hammer something out with Conforto, he could fit with the Rangers, Braves, Phillies, Cubs, Brewers, Rockies, Padres, Guardians, and Royals.
I guess it does change my calculus a bit. I do think it's an option worth keeping our eyes on though.
just depends on if you think moore is expendable..cuz story..could ss..frazier..2b..or toro...if no story..it may not be a prob...anyway....its hard..to say..All the scuttle bud with Conforto is he wants to be in Seattle and even possibly giving a hometown discount because he wants to come home. Fair take, I have no idea either. I just know that he is the best CF in the organization currently but that also will put the most stress on his knee so I am unsure of the solution for him or CFI hope I'm wrong on this, but I'm not sure if putting Lewis at DH will solve the issue with his knees. Sure it'll reduce the amount of running a bit, but he still has to run the bases. I honestly don't know if his knee injuries were a result of playing outfield or perhaps running too hard, but there's definitely something wrong there.
