Didn’t Jerry literally say they are going to try Evan White in the OF?
I had heard Toro but not White. I do not see any point in putting White out there. He has a defensive position, just needs to hit. Until he at least proves he can hit in AAA there's zero reason to factor him into anything

edgar..was a DH cuz he had injury..issues...............lewis can DH..for a year or 2..and streangthen..those..knees...its ok..mariners need a DH..as well..
do they need a CF......
seems so....
unless....julio rod..can do it...
or trammell...hits better..this year...he has to be working on it....even..if they traded..him....it would be the same....he needs to cut down on strikes..
and hit for a better ave......heck..trammell..is still a good prospect...CF...last year was his 1st..at mlb..or AAA....heck..he did well.....
I hope I'm wrong on this, but I'm not sure if putting Lewis at DH will solve the issue with his knees. Sure it'll reduce the amount of running a bit, but he still has to run the bases. I honestly don't know if his knee injuries were a result of playing outfield or perhaps running too hard, but there's definitely something wrong there.

Ya I keep reading that but he turned down his $18.4M tag so he won't be cheap and he just hasn't been great lately. His path reminds me of Lewis. The greatest ability is availability as they say.
I actually didn't take that into consideration when mentioning Conforto.

If I had to speculate, he probably declined the tag so that he could attempt to get a multi-year deal in free agency and if he doesn't, he'd get a one year deal worth around the tag amount he was offered.

This is what MLBTR had to say about it while projecting he signs a 1 year deal worth $20m. I think it's a good take:

There will be teams that happily make Conforto a multiyear offer, crediting his long track record as one of the game’s better left-handed hitters over his mediocre 2021. The guess here is that Conforto will turn down the qualifying offer, find the multiyear offers insufficient, and sign a comparable one-year deal with a new team to rebuild value and shake off the QO. Yasmani Grandal and Marcell Ozuna followed this model successfully. If the Mets don’t hammer something out with Conforto, he could fit with the Rangers, Braves, Phillies, Cubs, Brewers, Rockies, Padres, Guardians, and Royals.

I guess it does change my calculus a bit. I do think it's an option worth keeping our eyes on though.

I would love to have Cruz back but there is the Kyle Lewis and Mitch Haniger problem because both will have to DH some and you can’t put Cruz in the field. Package Lewis in that A’s trade idea we have tossed out there, or really any trade then there is room.
I agree. That's why I added the fact that I just thought adding Cruz to that lineup would make that idea a little more fun.

I would be absolutely stunned if Cruz came back, but it's fun to play around with the idea of it, even if it isn't practical or logical.

It is a solid team but if that is the projected opening day lineup then Jerry desperately needs another catcher IMO.
I agree that the glaring hole in that lineup is catcher, but I haven't read anything that indicates the Mariners are looking to make changes there. Aside from the Cruz addition, I was trying to be as realistic as possible.

I will say that I don't think it would be the worst idea in the world to explore free agent options and trades at catcher. I don't have any bright ideas off the top of my head, but it's definitely something worth considering.

I agree on White and at this point I'd rather just use him as trade bait. Ty France is our first baseman and Evan White would be pretty far down the list of our best options internally to play in the outfield.

I would love to see them go after Contreras from Cubs but Jerry already said no moves for catcher will be made plus it is probably less likely Cubs deal him now that they signed Stroman.

Wanted Stroman, but Rodon would be the next best get though we might be lefty heavy.

According to Scot Gregor of the Daily Herald, the Mariners, Yankees, Red Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers and Los Angeles Angeles are interested in Rodon.

One of the sports writers sent out a tweet that said from Orioles to Orioles on it. You weren't seeing things...lol.
Thanks, I thought I was seeing things. Still, I should have checked right before I posted.

thing..is...white..is..minus..-11...on trade...so really...he was a #1..pick...ya want to continue...to develop...and he signed..till...2028.....we may see..him at some point...this season..at mlb...if he hits around 300...at tacoma...that could be..230 -240...ok for a 1B guy..if he hits20-30 hrs....

mariners...need..no trades..IMO....so..there is no pressure....so far....if they can get....Colin Moran..!b/3b..everything works out...i have notfan graphed him yet...but he can play 1B..and has a good ave...so i will chech how good his D...is..
if he is at 1b...you can always put france..at 3B

james parker....will be an awsome..3b..in about 2 years...

i like to trade..pitt..for..jackson glenn...but that is prob ...fantasy......lolololol

colin moran just did somthing absurd
Colin Moran Just Did Something Absurd

And this gets us all the way back to the beginning. Colin Moran has broken out because he’s started to hit more balls in the air. Doesn’t do him any good to hit a bunch of grounders. My initial assumption was that Moran got better at hitting pitches down in the zone. Instead, what Moran is doing is targeting pitches up. Consider this table:

2018 Swing Rates
PlayerHighLowDifference
Marwin Gonzalez86%48%38%
Aaron Hicks81%44%37%
Jarrod Dyson73%37%36%
Brian Dozier69%33%36%
Colin Moran88%55%34%
Kolten Wong77%45%32%
Manny Machado81%49%32%
Kyle Schwarber79%48%31%
Albert Almora Jr.76%46%30%
A.J. Pollock79%50%29%
SOURCE: Baseball Savant
Upper and lower thirds of zone. Minimum 50 pitches in each area.
Moran has swung at eight of every nine pitches in the upper third of the zone. Meanwhile, he’s swung at just five of every nine pitches in the lower third of the zone. That gives him the fifth-greatest difference in the league. It’s not so much that Moran is trying to hit low pitches in the air. He’s trying to target pitches more likely to be hit in the air in the first place. That’s the other way of trying to eliminate grounders, and with Moran looking high more often than he’s looking low, that at least helps to partially explain how he could do to Harvey what he did. Moran wants the pitch up. Not usually that far up, but, things happen.
Ultimately, Harvey got to feel good about his start. Moran went hitless his other three times up, and the Pirates lost to one of the worst teams in baseball. If you care only about results, then, on Tuesday, the Reds got the best one. But it was Colin Moran who got the weirdest one. Also the most difficult one to forget.
