I saw that. What's with the Pens taking all of our former players these days? They are checking in on Laughton now as well.
Because they have stars and our players to them are depth guys not main players.

@Chris p Baconhas to be thrilled with the Avs building a stud roster. Dubnyk may just put them over the top to win it all. I just don't see any weaknesses on their roster now. Avs vs TB would be an entertaining series.
Yea I see only Vegas giving them any trouble in the West. They def have all the pieces now.

Even if they trade Laughton doesn't mean that they can't resign him in the summer. Foligno may go back to Columbus for instance. In saying that move him for draft picks why not it's basically free.

Dreger just tweeted teams think Laughton will re-sign with the Flyers rather than be moved. I'll be honest, I really don't like that. Opportunity for some cap flexibility to make a move that you need to make (ie top 4 dman). Spending it on a bottom 6 forward, even if you like him, isn't smart to me.

I have seen a few reports of Patrick being moved. I hate that idea 100%. He's only 24 years old. He missed a majority of last season due to migraines. Lastly, he was the #2 overall pick two years ago and we would take a major loss on any return on him being that's he's struggling getting back to form. If Fletcher trades him, I'll lose my shit on this franchise. Agree with you on Laughton.

I hate the idea of moving Patrick too. You're just not going to get good value for him. He's absolutely struggled this year, but he's got the highest ceiling right now. Maybe he doesn't pan out, but making that call right now is a bad idea IMO.

If he's dealt, it better be for a proven #1 dman.

Agreed. If there's a top young player with the potential to be a #1 dman, i'm good with that. Or if he's the centerpiece of getting an established #1 dman, I'm OK with it.

If it's for a guy in his prime that you're hoping can be a top pair guy but is on a mediocre contract; which is what a Patrick trade screams to me, then no thank you.

LVK was linked to Patrick but they just got a forward from CBH. Gave up a 2nd and a 3rd.

I would pursue a Seth Jones trade during the offseason.

Laughton signed $3 million per for 5 seasons. I'm fine with that. He's only just turning 27 late next month.

I hate that deal honestly. I like Laughton a lot, but to me that signals that Fletcher is fine running it back. I like this team, I believe in the kids, but they need to upgrade the top half of the lineup. Using $3M on Laughton makes a difficult task even harder.

Laczynski, Allison, Sandin, Brink, Twarynski, Bunnaman, NAK, Wisdom. They have a million guys that can play in the bottom 6. Spending 3M on Laughton is a waste of limited resources.

It also puts them in a position to have to protect Laughton and likely expose NAK. I'm fine with Seattle taking NAK in a vacuum, but there's absolutely no reason for them to take JvR or Voracek over NAK. And that was their best chance at moving one of those big contracts.

I kind of figured he was going to resign the longer this was dragging on. I'm quite surprised though that there wasn't any other deals on our end.

I don't think $3 million is a lot for what Laughton can provide though.

There's lots of chatter about Jones, but honestly, why would CBJ deal him? He's only 26, he's a top pair RHD, does it all. He's the kind of guy you re-build around, not one you trade to start a rebuild. At least, IMO.

I would try to make a move for him in a heart beat, but I just don't see why CBJ would.

To me it's just an opportunity to have flexibility. That money would be better used on the glaring whole on the top pair.

he has 2 years remaining on his contract. I would be locked in on how his negotiations are going on resigning. He may not want to resign in Cbus?
