To present, Gallo simply has not earned an extension. Evidently he thinks much more of himself than some do. Saddles is right. The Odor contract was not a good move and as it turned out Profar is gone and was a much more vital part of the team. We don't need to make the same mistake again. That would indicate we need changes at the top.

That is an impossible question to answer since I have no idea if he pans out later. Of course, I wouldn't pay anyone who I knew would not pan out, but that is impossible to know.

The problem is this team is too cheap to not let a financial mistake cripple them. Take Odor for example. They should have been able to admit a mistake and replace him in the lineup with Profar. They are sometimes too cheap and too proud to admit a mistake.

If extending young guys now would not cripple the team financially or lineup-wise then I would be all for taking a chance on some of the younger guys.
Mr
Once they get wise enough to move on from mistakes and once they commit enough money to withstand some mistakes then things can be different. For now I don't trust them to sign guys to contract extensions.

I don’t trust them either. Odor was the last straw for me. We all know Choo and fielder are abortions.

They totally mismanaged the odor situation. A competent organization would’ve sent him back down to triple A or had him riding the pine.

I’ll give the front office the benefit of the doubt on that ( for now) and assume it was that idiot Banny who kept putting him in the lineup every day with an avg under .200

So glad we have a new manager / assistant coaches.

Sticking with Odor no matter what is a JD decision. That was confirmed by who got traded and who stayed.

I'm not giving Gallo extension. Make him earn it. If he hits around. 210 again this year, move on.

Terrible shitty ass decision by JD then.

Front office should worry about acquiring player personnel. They should leave development and managing to the coaches.

Are you talking about playing Profar or trading Profar?

Right or wrong it became very unsure whether Profar would ever pan out due to injuries. He was going to enter FA sooner, had expressed a desire to play SS full time wherever he could. By this time Odor was extended after an overachieving year. Perhaps the Rangers could have exercised patience but Profar would be in FA before the Rangers had a good chance to be relevant.

The book is not closed on Odor or Profar but I get the bet they made on Odor being the future. Profar ended up not losing real playing time once healthy and his head straight.

Yes JD extended Odor not any manager but the manager decides who plays. Wash showed this when he would not play Profar.

After all this, it was Banny who got sent to the pine.

Perhaps this overhaul of management emphasizing metrics and a new player approach may revitalize our young nucleus

Haha. Never give up the faith in the front office.

People here are telling me that JD and the front office were forcing our coaches to put odor in the lineup over Profar last year while Profar was doing well and odor was hitting under .200

I don’t have an issue with trading Profar if we’re never going to freaking use him. For some strange reason, our organization treats Odor like he’s an all star franchise player. Someone in the front office or a coach in the clubhouse had a huge hard on for Odor because the guy would’ve been sent down to triple A or riding the pine by almost every other mlb team for his lackluster performance.

We babied him because of his contract. Gave him playing time like it was a birthright at the expense of more deserving and more talented ( at the time) players.

It was sickening. Profar really got screwed over here.

Do we know if he went the other way on an outside pitch or just late with his swing? Big difference.

I’m expecting to see some changes ( for the better) with this coaching staff.

I thought Banny didn’t do squat except say “aww shucks guys” and “never ever quit”.

Brocail stunk and I didn’t like iapoce’s approach. Our lack of situational hitting was inexcusable.

I don't think it was a case of JD twisting Banister's arm. I think it was an organization decision with input from JD and Banny. Whatever influence JD had in the decision, it was evident from the trade that he wholeheartedly agreed that Odor was the better player. Profar has been past his injuries for a long time now and they had plenty of time to treat him right and keep him in the organization.

At some point JD decided that Odor was a better keeper than Profar, and that is a bad decision that will bear itself out as such in very short order. Within 2-3 years it will be very evident that Profar is the better of the two. I think it is pretty evident already.
