Toronto and OKC are not free agent destinations so they had more reason to take that risk. Boston is a big time free agent destination so why am I trading my young guys who I value for a 1 year rental when I can attract actual free agents who want to play here?

Comparing Boston to OKC and Toronto is just silly.

1 is a big time free agent market. The other 2 are not

It made no sense for Boston.

This argument literally ties into that old tired conversation that we have about tanking vs not tanking and why some teams may need to adopt that model. While others, based on their market, don't need to go down that route if managed right. Boston doesn't have to take gambles like this.

wait a minute- which is it for you? not applying real world principles or applying real world principles? becuase it seems you aretrying to argue both

i am saying you CANT---- its a separate thing- its a league in and of itself that is subject to an anti-trust exemption- other teams just cant "join"---- it follows its own by-laws.

andto answer your question- absolutely not- if you are under contract you are under contract---- if you didnt protect yourself by having an "out" in your contract you are stuck---if you want to give something back to negotiate your way out of it- then have at it.
Or you can just ask to be traded and if they will, great.

Fair enough, but contracts solidify negotiations.
You either honor what you agreed to or pay a penalty.

Dont want your I Phone anymore? No problem. Pay early termination fee.
Same with Direct TV, and everywhere else.
Asking to be traded does not mean you didn't honor your contract.

Not directly, but in essence.
Players know if they create enough of a distraction they can pretty much force team to move them.

If penalty kicker in contract, maybe they won’t be in such a hurry to ask.

Correct....but a penalty kicker is not in the contract. It's simple.....asking to be traded is not in breach of contract.

You act like its the same as your kid asking you for $20.00.
Its not.
Actually, no, I don't act like that. The team is free to call the player's bluff and not deal him. What's he gonna do? sit out and not get paid?

Most players wont be a distraction on Kyrie's level.

So now you know what level of distraction a player will be?

I think you are wrong.
Once a roster of players knows, for example, AD, doesn’t want to be there.
It makes it very difficult to succeed.

Succeed is far different then show up.

Neither is a no trade clause, so players bitching about earning additional money to go play for another team, or even just their salary, should just shut up and pack.

who bitches about earning money to play for another team? If a trade kicker is negotiated in their contract then it's their right to receive the money if dealt.

Correct, and if there’s no trade clause, don’t complain because you were traded.

I don’t personally know, but I’ve heard it from some who have been in the situation.

Do you have any common sense?
Do you know what type of divas most of these high profile players are?

You claimed I don't know the level of distraction then claimed you know the level of distraction. You made another foolish comment. I know it's not in you to admit it.

Then you make it worse with another foolish comment? Telling me "you don't personally know" Like if you didn't inform me I might be under the impression you are part of an NBA team and had seen this first hand?

More comical was then asking if I had common sense. Please never change.

Another option, just get rid of max contracts, but work within perimeters of a salary cap like the NFL?

Thats best option to avoid superteams.

The NBA won't do that for five reasons. New York, LA, Philadelphia, Boston and the Players Association (Union). Right now all or most of the other owners buy that in order for the NBA to make the most money it can, the big money teams must be good.

Whether that is really true or not I don't know and it don't matter because the NBA owners make the decisions.

Where did I ever imply that I was part of an NBA team?

That being said, Ive been a Heat STH for a very long time, which allows me from time to time the opportunity to have some interesting conversations.

who has complained because they were traded? You're really losing focus here.

I can’t help it if you’re uninformed on the topic.
Often players feel betrayed, and others use it as the excuse to ask out of their contracts.
