Celtics To Waive Guerschon Yabusele
July 10th, 2019 at 11:08am CST by Luke Adams
The Celtics will release former first-round pick Guerschon Yabusele, reports Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports (via Twitter).

Yabusele has a $3,117,240 cap hit for the 2019/20 season, per Basketball Insiders, so a team with enough cap room or a trade exception big enough to absorb that number could claim him. Otherwise, he’ll become an unrestricted free agent and the Celtics will be on the hook for that dead money. Boston wouldn’t owe him his $4,781,846 salary for 2020/21, since that’s a team option that has not yet been exercised.

Yabusele, the 16th overall pick in the 2016 draft, remained overseas for a year before joining the Celtics in 2017. The 6’8″ power forward didn’t make much of an impact for the club in his two seasons in Boston, averaging 2.3 PPG and 1.4 RPG in just 6.6 minutes per contest (74 games).

As Keith Smith of RealGM notes (via Twitter), waiving Yabusele will create some extra roster flexibility for the Celtics, who had been projected to have 15 players on guaranteed contracts. The club now has an open regular-season roster spot available for a 15th man.

@Gman finally released the fat hamster

Interesting enough, the Cavs will have $65M in cap in 21-22, that is counting the Love contract. If they were to trade him by then we are talking close to $100M

And when no top player comes it will once again prove that NBA players would prefer to not live there.

Like I said trade away basically their whole team and keep one nice player around $11M...which is Leonard in this case.

So they have Leonard, Butler, Love, RW and James Johnson. They would keep Herro in this scenario but they would have no depth

It's not THAT bad. They basically would be losing 3 players; a center (Bam), a SG (Waiters), and another wing (Winslow). Herro could step in to Waiters spot behind Butler, while Johnson would start for Winslow (guessing here, don't know the Heat that well). Dragic is replaced by Russ, Olynyk by Love. Both the Cavs and Thunder drop a little salary ($3.2 for the Cavs, $3.7M for the Thunder) to ease away from luxury tax. Miami's depth would be very green though, as you noted.

Adam Silver knows the free agency process has to be improved: "It’s pointless at the end of the day to have rules that we can’t enforce.

He most have read my June 30.

when I lived in Shaker as a kid I think that was the one I went to. Near Lawson's right?

Pretty sure the one on Mayfield by the freeway is still there. Those were really the only 2 I ever went to.

And, yeah, when I moved out to Phoenix Mr. Hero (and Chick-Fil-A) were missed and places I had to go when I came back to visit.

We got Chick-Fil-A here in the past year or so and I really don't get the hype. It's a chicken sandwich, nothing special IMO.

I agree. The trade overall really could be good for all teams...Miami is left with not much depth and you really can't even say they are a top 5 team in the NBA even after that trade.

My guess is Riley would do it, then hope to attract veteran min players and buyouts like during the Big 3 years.
At his age, why hope to get them in FA if you can get now in a trade?

I question health of Love, but we’ll see.

Some people on here want every player on their squad to average double figures.....he made over 50% of his attempts....

Nah, I wan't better balance from my depth. Lakers need a front court defender, not an umpteenth guard.

Except James isn't retiring anytime soon

I feel people are sleeping on Lebron...just like they are on the Rockets. When he was healthy last year he was as good as anyone in the league without much help. The way he is going and if he can stay healthy he is the type of player that can average 25 a game till he is 38. He is already developing his postgame...obviously his defense is dropping every year but he is a really good defender.

They have 2 rookies that are not signed

13 players signed, plus one rookie (THT) that needs to be signed. 1 player signed to a 2 way deal, and 2 players in summer league that could be converted to 2 way deals (1 of the 2 obviously).
