Flyers' Hextall suspended for 12 games

PHILADELPHIA -- The NHL Monday suspended Ron Hextall of the Philadelphia Flyers for the first 12 games next season because of the goaltender's attack on Montreal defenseman Chris Chelios.

'Even though there was no injury involved, Hextall showed a complete disrespect for the league and the game by taking it upon himself to extract revenge,' Brian O'Neill, the NHL's executive vice president, said in announcing the suspension. 'His actions appeared to be a blatant and premeditated attack on an opponent.'
