This years' draft is just boggling my mind....
The Flyers need things that are not obviously available when they will be drafting barring something dramatic. They need right handed defense. They need top 6 skill at all three forward positions. They need centers with above average size and speed.

I love this time of the year.

What would you be willing to give up to go after Karlsson? He would be the RHD man we need plus he would be a good solid leader for the rest of the crew. I personally would go after him over Tavares, JMO.

They are going to lose him for nothing if they don't trade him, so the heat is on them. I wouldn't give up a ton in a trade, but even if we have him, it sounds like he wants a lot of money. So, get ready for at least McDavid money. That's 8 years @ $100 million total. A $12.5 million cap hit.

Which poses the question, is he worth it?

I say no, given the cap hit, the length of contract and our strength on defense anyway via incoming prospects and Provorov/Ghost. One of our first round picks this year could easily be another good defenseman too.

If we could get him via free agency, that's another thing, but I don't think Ottawa will let that happen like the Islanders could with Tavares.

Who else can feel the pre-draft deals bubbling around the league...or is it just me?

The more I read about this draft the more comfortable I am with basically everyone in the Flyers range. Only guy I would be hesitant on is Merkley. Seems to have super high-end offensive skills as a dman, but supposedly doesn't play defense and has a bad attitude. Even if he is all-world offensively, no coach is going to play someone with a bad attitude and lack of interest on defense. Aside from him I think I like everyone else.

I just read a mock draft which has us taking Dman Evan Bouchard at 14 and center Isac Ludestrom at 19

Ludestrom's profile reminds me a lot of Lindblom. I'd be fine with that.

I can see this draft being a boon to organizational depth if nothing else.
There are a number of players who have great aspects to their game but are incomplete players. The question I keep coming back to is how bold do you go in a draft like this? Think about some of the late round gambles that we have seen other teams take. Play it safe, go with the "best complete player available" and you end up with Radovan Somik (taken 100th in his draft year). The next pick was Micheal Handzus. Mikka Kiprusoff was 116.

It is all in the vision, the stones and luck.

I really want them to move up and take Wahlstrom, but I don’t know if it’ll happen. I don’t really want to give up more than draft picks though.

How high of a pick do you think the 14th and 19th picks could fetch? Definitely not top 5, but probably in the 6-10 range? Wahlstrom should go somewhere in that same range.

Chicago strikes me as someone that might move down for more picks. If Wahlstrom is there at 8, I could maybe see 14+19 for 8.

The more I think about it, the more I see Hextall trying to trade into the top 10. 14 seems to be right around where a drop-off in consensus talent begins to occur.

I have seen Farabee in several mocks going at 14. I like he is fast and a good shot, but 5-11 163 lbs. Needs to add 20 lbs without losing speed.

From what I have read, there are concerns about whether he has legitimate top 6 potential or whether he benefitted from playing on a line with Wahlstrom and will peak as a bottom 6 guy in the NHL.

Also, I don't think Hextall has ever drafted a winger in the 1st round, and seems to shy away from 1st round picks going the college route. I could see the gamble at 19 if he's still there but I doubt it at 14.
