Sounds like Abiatal Avelino is going to report to AAA, finish out the season there and could be a Sept. callup.

I read that their decision will be based on his 3 games with Sacramento. Got to wonder what they would see that would make them say no?

They don’t know him, so who knows what they could see that say yes...

They got 2 60-candidates, so we could still see someone like rogers added as well.

I'm not concerned about Rogers (I think his chances are much better this year). I was trying to figure out what they could possibly see in 3 games that would make them say "Nope, not calling him up this month."

I get it. My point is that since they don’t know the kid, they don’t really know what they are looking for. They are just putting him on the lift and seeing what might catch their eye.

It just seems like a funny thing to say. If he goes 0 for 15 in the series and makes 5 errors, will they decide not to bring him up? I doubt it but maybe I'm wrong. That happens every so often.

I doubt results will have much to do with it. They will judge his maturity, his work ethic, how he approaches an AB or a game. Basically, they are getting to know the player. Is he emotionally ready for the Show?

That's kind of what I was thinking. They want to get to know the guy a bit.

He did have a very nice first game, FWIW. Went 2-5 with 2 R, 1 RBI and 2 SB

Looks like Ohtani is going to be out all of 2019 for Tommy John surgery. Could you imagine if the Giants had signed him? Two of our best starters would be sidelined for the entirety of next year and the budget would be shot.

Couldn't happen to a better team.

Looking at some of the minor leaguers we've traded away recently because I love self-loathing.

Anyway Bryan Reynolds had a pretty nice year. He played only 88 games due to injury, but what stood out to me was an 11.2 percent walk rate and a 19.1 strikeout rate. Both were career-bests, especially the walk rate. His previous best was 6.8% last season. Even back to his college days, this was a major leap. He had 17% walk rate in his final season, but he was the lone bat in the lineup and always pitched around. His first two years he was sub-10%.

The reason I'm bringing this up is I wonder what the change was with him. He was a hack with the Giants, and he was a hack going into the draft. It was one of his red-flags, he swings too much without the best hit or power tools. The year he leaves the Giants, though, he takes a major leap. For now I'll chalk it up to a SSS, but still it could be a reflection of the Giants.
