Did read that somewhere? That does seem to happen, sometimes, with seniors who get drafted in the later rounds. They have already moved on from baseball and don't want to spend a year or two playing out the string in minor league baseball when they could be working toward their long term careers.

No, I hadn’t heard/read it anywhere. I just noticed a Sr not signing.

Coming out of college, how can you not accept a 125k check? That is a nice nest egg to pick up for your first 2-3 years out of school.

I would guess he'll sign after the CWS. His team faces off against Florida in an elimination game today.

From what SFGRTB's post about late round signings, the team can offer less than 125k. I doubt they'll offer that much to a senior when they got a JUCO player in the 35th round to sign for 25k.

And for the record, I have no idea who Dusek is, and quite frankly don’t care if he signs or not. It was just something I noticed and thought it was a bold move for a kid fresh out of college to turn down that kind of scratch.

Heck, even a 25k check fresh out of college, and the ability to play a game for a living for a couple years I still something I would have had a hard time turning down. Unless a guy has a nice job in the real world already lined up, or just doesn’t like the sport, which are both completely valid possibilities.

I linked to a story about him here a week or so ago.

The Giants also signed at least two NDFA's - Mack Meyer, from Virginia, assigned to Salem-Keizer and Jordan Scott, from Southeastern, assigned to AZL Black.
There are two other NDFAs the Giants signed. They are:

JJ Santa Cruz - Fresno State!
Tyler Flores - Point Loma Nazarene

Flores makes the third player the Giants picked up this month from the PacWest Conference (DII). The others being Braden Frankfort (Fresno Pacific!) and Preston White (The Master's College).

Sorry I've been slacking. Here are some updated numbers:

18th round Bryan Hernandez signs for $290K ($165K over)
26th round Jacob Lopez signs for $150K ($25K over)

Dusek has signed but I still don't have the number yet. Bates got $150K ($31,700 under). Winn got $500K ($105,400 over).

With Olenek, Krull and Hansen definitely NOT signing, that leaves just Hoeing and McDonald as the only two left.

The Giants have spent $11,975,000 on 35 players (reported), and they still have maybe $359,875 to spend on two guys, if they want to. There's a chance that other guys in the 11-40 rounds have signed for more, but I don't know. Hoeing is pitching in the Cape Cod League, but hasn't made an appearance in over a week, perhaps at the Giants behest?

How do NDFAs count? Do they count? The Giants have signed a lot of them this year. They just added two more recently to AZL Black - Copper Casad and Garrett Christman (whom they drafted in the 37th round of the 2014 draft).

As far as I know, no. I don't have a clue where their money is counted, probably just under the minor league salary umbrella.

I haven't looked to see if it is true but the Giants seem more aggressive this year in terms of the number of draft picks from the current year's draft placed in short season A ball. Right now, the 1st through 5th, 8th, 10th, 11th, 15th and 16th picks are all on Salem-Keizer's roster. All but two are pitchers.

Off the top of my head, I don't think so. The Giants typically send most of their college kids to Salem, and this year they were pretty heavy on college. The number might be higher than normal, but that could be because they drafted more college players than usual

Mets just traded my early predraft favorite, Jerrod Kelenic to the Ms in the Cano trade. Pretty massive deal...

I thought that name was familiar but couldn't remember why. Seems the Mets may be getting the raw end of the deal. They pick up a lot of Cano's contract and give up prospects (but they do get Diaz and get rid of Bruce).

It's a weird deal. The Mariners could definitely gotten a lot more is they traded Diaz on his own, but maybe that is offset by the prospects they would have to give up with Cano.

The Mets' side of this is odd too. They're going to be on the hook for 40 year old Cano at $20 million, and they gave up their top prospect in the process. Then I read that they're fully committed to trading Thor?? What direction are they going?
