Phil Jackson didn’t win a billion titles because his triangle offense was so incredible. He won them because he kept his Hall of Famers from killing each other.

Exactly. Phil wasn't great at X's and O's, that's why he always had Tex Winter. Phil was great at managing ego's and getting guys like MJ and Kobe to buy into a team concept.

i agree--- im throwing back bogartes too and carpenter.

Ill keep Jram, Judge, Verlander, Smith and Doolittle (2 closers for 15 total is good value), and Folty....

thats a total of 96 dollars spent out of 260--- and i already have 2 stud bats, 2 closers, and 3 starting pitchers.

carpenter and bogartes are tempting- without a doubt- but throwing them back means i can go out and get an elite player like a betts or blackmon or trout or something.
As I said agree with throwing back Boeg, but do like Carpetenter's production/versatility.

Yeah...not many could succeed with arguably the best player in the game on their roster AND another HOFer.

Not sure I'd argue Kobe bought into a team concept. He was just very good.

Actually, that's not why Shaq left.
For the 10,000th time.. I'm not sure why people still don't understand what really happened that ended up with Shaq being traded. SMH

Much like MJ, Kobe bought into the team concept when he had teammates that he felt he could trust and/or when they were playing well.

The difference was that MJ learned that if his teammates weren't playing well to start, he would take over the game, but would "check back" at times in the game to see if they started playing better.

With Kobe, if his teammates weren't playing well, he would take over the game and never look back.

Yeah, he's off base on that one...
Then you can tell Shaq he's offbase, as he said this.....

"I didn't want to leave," he said. "But being a veteran in the business of basketball, I realised that ... there can't be two kings. And every great movie that I've seen - mafia movies, just to put it in better terms - the younger boss always takes out the older boss."

To be fair, the beef with Kobe took up the vast majority of the headlines.

Plus, likely because he was upset that the Lakers "chose Kobe" over him...Shaq continued to throw shade at Kobe (remember "How's my ass taste"?) for 2-3 seasons or more after he left.

Plus, it makes for a more interesting storyline than "Shaq left over money".

Actually he was giving up minutes mostly to Whiteside.
Ive watched both players.
TT isnt near as athletic as Bam.
It isnt even close.

I think athleticism is pretty similar. They do similar things defensively.

I take Bam all day though because I like his skill set. He is a pretty good passer and he has decent touch on his jump shot. I think within the next couple seasons he will expand his offensive game out to the 3 point line. TT has never been more than a garbage man offensively.

Also, as for the stat comparison's, they are irrelevant.

TT played 23 and 31 minutes respectively on terrible Cav teams. Bam, meanwhile played 16 and 22 minutes on low end playoff caliber Heat teams.

And @WiggyRuss knows a comparison like that is invalid because of the minute totals and the quality of the 2 teams.

Didn't Kobe yell one more than Shaq! after he stoled his 5th ring?

He got traded because he called out Dr Buss about getting paid.....

whats funny is in the last 2 seasons TT has not played with LeBron he is at roughly 11 and and 10--- one of well under 20 guys in the league that is a basically a double double guy with pts and rebounds. LeBron without a doubt HURT TT's stats- which makes sense when LeBron takes 27/8/8 off the board every gaame

Did LeBron hurt his stats?

Yes.

But the main difference is that now the Cavs are terrible again. So TT is asked to do more.

I guarantee his numbers come back down next year playing alongside Love.

He was referring to Kobe taking the torch & becoming the franchise player. Things like, Kobe's work ethic (which he tried to help Shaq with) & the undeniable fact that Kobe had developed into a franchise player while playing with Shaq.

Shaq wanted to be paid, demanded it actually during a game, and ASKED to be traded when he didn't get what he wanted. Dr. Buss bet on the younger, more dedicated to his craft player, which was Kobe. Please get your facts together when posting on a sports forum...more specifically a basketball forum. SMH

Yes those were the headlines, but not the reason Shaq left as most of us know.
