On Reddit, Giants fans are celebrating. Not exactly confidence building...

Calhoun DeShields and Maz provide value to our OF. Maz 2017 team RBI leader. DDJ produced plenty of offense and Calhoun is supposed to be somewhat a power bat. I see potential for a very good OF less a weak arm in DDJ but his offense off sets the arm imo. That of course may change if we :ninja:pick up a CF. Combined with our IF, we should have the making of team to build on.

I do like Dyson's defense, his bat not so much especially since he's another lefty

I get that. If we sign a guy like Yu we will probably roll with DDJ and you got the rule 5 as a defensive late inning backup.

I still think Guzman has a shot. Could go a lot of different ways re Calhoun pending ST and/or trades

Well we both wanted Abreu but I saw the logic needing the LH power bat and I hated listing Brinson but trying to win while we had Yu and Hamels is not a GM blowing it.

All teams trying to tank is not conceivable or good logic IMO. Even the Halos which have made a lot of splashes are not a strong contender to win WS but their fans are quite enthusiastic. I want nothing more to win a WS in my lifetime but a WS or bust mentality is not prudent.
Tanking and rebilding are not the same thing at all.

We'll of course. You can add pieces without giving away major prospects. I think that is what is ahead which can easily put us in WC contention

We can sell expiring assets at the break if we underperform

I would have traded Beltre at the deadline in 2014 and kept prospects intend of trading them away. I would not have went after Choo or Prince. That course would have had us looking very good about now.

with the addition of Matt Moore the 40-man is full any new move will require clearing a roster spot

Yes, it is. Foresight is a lot harder and a lot less accurate. It will have you saying Holland is better than Cashner, but sometimes it makes you say Beltre should be traded and makes everyone think you are crazy.

Rangers always landing these Matt Moore types, they chased when they were good or had lots of upside, a few years too late. Just say "No" JD. There are certainly better options than Matt Moore out there, even for the little value we gave up. When a guy goes to the NL and stinks, he has zero chance in the AL at this stage in the game. Hell we might as well run NMart out there for 25 starts next year. The results wouldn't be as bad, Im guessing.

Still hoping we can make a run at Yu although our roster now at 40. Of course would love a salary dump with Choo betting on upside of Calhoun to facilitate this. A lot of money tied up on position players.

Matt Moore should have had better year last year but what have read is his FB is still lively but has issue with control. Hoping he has just taken longer than the norm to get that back post TJ.

This would have represented a blockbuster acquisition back in 2013.

Now?

Now it's just another attempt by the Rangers to land undervalued starting pitching. And it might also put an end to any real chance of a reunion with Yu Darvish. On Friday in a San Francisco Giants salary dump, the Rangers acquired left-hander Matt Moore who once dominated them in a postseason game and appeared to be one of the game's rising pitching stars, for a pair of minor leaguers.

The Rangers will also receive an additional $750,000 worth of international signing bonus slot money. San Francisco is receiving minor league right-handers Sam Wolff, who is coming back from flexor tendon surgery, and 20-year- old Israel Cruz, who had not advanced farther than rookie level Arizona in four seasons in the organization.
