Yeah, my best guess is that one of them (Gilbert & Griffin) wanted to make sure they are prepared for long-term, life without LeBron while the other is more concerned with this next season.

I don't know who is who, but as a LeBron fan and someone who is not too fond of Gilbert... I hope Gilbert is the one ready to go balls-to-the-wall for this year.

I'm guessing that Gilbert is the one that refuses to believe Lebron will leave next summer.

This is gonna sound crazy... and it definitely is....

BUT.... IF Paul George's efforts to kill his trade value worked and the Pacers are unable to get a great offer from a team for the 1 year rental...

Its actually conceivable that the Cavs could land PG13 AND Butler - without giving up Kyrie.

It would probably take Love, Frye, Shump, Cedi Osman, and the 2020 and 2021 1st round pick... but its technically possible. Something like Love and the 2 picks to the Bulls. Then Frye (expiring contract), Cedi Osman (high-celiing draft-and-stash prospect), and Shump (mainly for salary purposes) to the Pacers.

Kyrie | Butler | PG13 | LeBron | TT

Can you imagine?

Why would the Pacers want Shump's salary, when they could have cap space instead?

They wouldn't, but you need him in the trade to make the salaries work. He's only got 1 more year on his contract, and its not an unreasonable 1. They get 1 expiring deal, 1 solid role player on a friendly contract, and 1 prospect, vs having PG for 1 more season and losing him for nothing but cap space.

It just depends on if other teams are willing to offer better for a 1 year rental.

This has Gilbert written all over it. Multiple sources indicated that Lebron was actually happy with Griffin as a GM because he did his job well.

I don't see that trade ever happening. Indiana's not going to want to take on Shump's salary, they'll want picks if anything.

I wonder if Gilbert trades James before he walks out the door again?

He is the best owner in the world. His pockets are so deep he is willing to outspend everybody every year. You are are so jealous you don't have an owner like Gilbert.

LOL at anyone who ever believed this garbage.
