Getting swept at home to open your season is awful

Red Sox, Twins, Nationals, and Astros going for the sweep today.

Nice win for the Sox yesterday. Only had 3 walk-off hits all last season, and didn't have a walk-off HR until September 15th. Great first game by Sale, and the bullpen going 5 innings and allowing just 2 hits. No Pirates player got to 2nd base the whole game. And it's early, but nice to see Kimbrel not gag in a non-save situation. Last year he was put in 22 of those situations and had a 5.12 ERA.

MLB has never really marketed just single players, the only one I can really remember in my generation was Griffey, and that's because he was special, could have gone down as top 5 greatest players ever if not for injuries, and he's still in the top 20 or top 15 even with all those crippling injuries.

This generation has a lot of young talent, tons of it, with Trout leading it, but he's not a talkative guy, his team usually sucks, and he's the type to just go out and play the game.

Baseball markets for the teams, and a star player can't affect the game such as in football or basketball, where a star player can absolutely take over the game.

Barry Bonds is possibly the greatest hitter of all time and he never won a WS, and in the one WS he did play, he was absolutely lights out, and they still lost in 7 to a team without a true superstar on it.

Clay Buchholz with his first start for the Phillies, not going so well.

@Omar 382: You're gonna hate him. Give it time.

Too late, I hate him
Nah you don't truly feel it yet. Here's what is going to happen. He's going to go through a really good stretch, and get your hopes up, then get hurt. Then he'll come back the next year and you'll think "if he maintains, and just stays healthy, he'll be great" and then he'll suck.

Then he will do that for 6 years.

lol, I'll share that on the Phillies board. My 67 year old High School Chemistry teacher who I still talk to now who is a huge Red Sox fan told me the same thing.

Luckily, we are looking for him to pitch just well enough so we can trade him this season and have him be someone else's problem. If he's on our team in 6 years, something seriously awful went wrong (like Pat McPhail developed Alzheimer's and hired Ruben Amaro Jr. back who promptly signs Buchholz to a 6 year deal)

Oh I said the same thing in each of those decent seasons he had.

Yeah just take a look at that baseball-reference page and you'll see what I'm talking about. And get ready for "I felt like I threw the ball well today, just made a couple bad pitches and they took advantage."
