so, sure sounds like Durant is signing for the max or at least close to the max right? A max will prob start at AT LEAST 34, maybe as much as 38-39M....lets say 34 at the least.

Curry: 37.5
Durant: 34
Dray: 17.5
=89M

Livingston and Iggy are both on the books for the 2019 2020 season at 8M and 17M a piece. Those are the only other guaranteed contracts the Warriors have on the books.

89+8+17 = 114.5M for 5 players---- Curry, Durant, Dray, Livingston, Iggy

the cap for the '19/'20 season is 108---- the luxury tax line is 131

NBA salary cap projections for upcoming seasons not as much as first thought
Report: NBA cap will be set at $101 million for 2018-19, $108 million for 2019-20

it should get interesting....you know Klay will be getting handed max offers left and right starting in the low thirties range at least.....

this year...next year....bingo bango buybye.

And he already expressed he would be willing to take less to keep their core together...just like KD has done. I'm willing to bet Dray would consider it as well.

Klay's said he'll take a discount (probably a small one). This was approached before. But with that core, the Warriors will have to rely on superb scouting for players in the latter part of the 1st and 2nd rounds.

Also, they better hope that Iggy isn't taking a significant downturn in his career now given the mediocre year he's had.

The real important question will be will ownership want to spend a few mill extra in luxury tax penalties which will build on top of itself in the coming years.

It's easy to say now. But when you get a $400 mil luxury tax bill that's separate from player salaries, it's definitely something to watch - especially when ownership's collective net worth is between 1.2 to 1.5 billion.

I think KD's taking the max this go around. I believe he took a bit of a pay cut on a 1-year deal so the organization could re-sign Iggy and Livingston. Now that those guys are locked up, and Klay and Draymond's bird rights are retained, there really isn't any reason for him to not take the max. Him getting paid lower than the max just lessens the tax burden.

Oh of course - it's essentially Klay's turn to take a slight cut to keep the team together. We'll see if it's necessary & if he's a man of his word.

Agreed, and ownership has already made very clear they're willing to spend what it takes to build championship teams.

Marriage and Monogamy aren't for everyone. If you're a super rich, young, famous athlete, why would you try to box yourself in if that lifestyle isn't for you? Sometimes you just gotta be real with yourself. If you want to just continue to smash IG models, do you.

I think so too and from what I read that could start at 38M

If Klay takes a reasonable discount that could still mean a 30M a year contract. Its not IMPOSSIBLE that they resign Klay if and when Durant takes a max, but it would mean swallowing a tax bill that even DAn Gilbert might choke at. Once Dray is up it just busts the math.

Its one reason why- when there were rumors about the CAvs trading for DeAndre Jordan- say they kept IT and IT was good- I didnt think it made sense because there is no way the CAvs could keep IT, Love, DJ, and LeBron--- you cant have 4 players like that on the same team making big money- esp. with guys like JR Smith, TT, or Iguadala, making over 15M a year.

It just breaks the math. It turns it from expensive and ridiculously costly into- literally- a fortune- an untenable amt. of tax.

Gilbert is gonna have to write a 50M dollar lux. tax check- this season--- and that might be even higher if/when LeBron stays......

but when you start getting into repeater level and are so far gone- writing 200M dollar checks is just not something thats feasible.

if Klay took 30 instead of 35....

for 2019/2020 the guaranteed money would be:

Curry: 37.5
Durant: at least 36
Dray 17.5
Klay: 30
Iggy: 17
Livingston: 8

146M

as i said above- the tax line is going to be about 131. They would be at least at 146 with only 6 players. Thats not expensive. Thats impossible- unless like @Heatles84 said- you want to write a check thats about 4-8x's bigger than any check Dan Gilbert has ever written for a years luxury tax payment. Its just not fathomable.

Haha

I think it's different though when there is no marriage involved. Each side is on a level playing field which might make things easier to accept for them.
Agreed.

Tristan isn't married.

And like @bksballer89 said: You lose him the way you got him.

He left his 6 month old pregnant girlfriend of 2 years for a reality show slore he was set up with by Brandon Jennings, knowing he had a preggo girlfriend at home.

....unless they are winning chips.

They won't keep them together for nostalgia sake.

But, winning?

Maybe

if the luxury tax line is 131--- if they had a payroll of about 160M......their lux. tax bill for that year would be about 115M

you think an NBA team spend 275M in payroll in one year? aint happenin honey. I think DAn G. is halfway in sane for writing a 50M+ dollar lux tax check.

Time will tell.

Gilbert paid that tax on a team that didn't win.

So, it's not that farfetched for a Team with a shot at being a dynasty.

But, they have to win.

If they don't, there's this nifty little thing called the trade market and we know at least the Lakers would gladly absorb Klay.

What does their TV deal and gay as Jersey patch pay per year?

* All jersey patches are gay *

Clippers have the gayest of the gay....female tinder.

just for comparisons sake- the most ever paid in a single season with the luxury tax was the Nets- when that crazy Russian worth about 14B paid a lux tax bill of 91M in '13-'14.

Cavs last year at 54M....I think they are in for more this year- but i dont think itll break 60M....those are easily # 2 and 3. The next highest after that was the Bricks way back in 07 with about 46M

The most the Warriors have ever paid in lux tax was last year at 15M.
