As long as Ecuador beat Haiti by 2 goals or more, it turns the Brazil/Peru game into a win or go home for Peru and Brazil will be in a position where they must at least draw to advance.

If Peru wins, do they eliminate Brazil?

Don't pop off till it's a done deal.

It is a done deal. If the Brazil-Peru game is a draw then Brazil finishes 1st. If Peru win then obviously they win. Ecuador is locked into the 2nd spot in this group. We're playing them

They always find the hottest Brazilian chicks in the crowds.

Well in that case, I don't care who wins. That said, how did that happen from where we weren't sure who we were going to face after finding out we won the group last night?

Ecuador had to beat Haiti by 2+ goals to clinch their spot in the quarters. If they won by less than 2 goals and these 2 had a draw then it would have come down to goal differential so that's why we didn't know who we were facing last night

Klinsmann's goal was to advance to the Copa Semifinals. I'm not big on these goals short of winning a tournament. Hell, Greece won the Eurocup 10+ years ago. That said, I will be impressed if this team advances to the semis.

Winning the group, pounding the hacks from Costa Rica, and beating Paragauy after playing an entire half a man down was impressive. I agree with the board sentiment - if Peru or Ecuador is the US opponent, they should advance. It will be a disappointment if they don't, another wasted opportunity for the program to break through a ceiling and reach a new challenge: playing a world class team in a major tournament.

As for the Paragauy game, great team performance.

Guzan - elevated his game and played great.
Brooks - he's the best player on the US squad and he's proving to be world class.
Yedlin - not ready for prime time and burned the team twice this tourney. They are winning in spite of him.

Jurgen Klinsmann tired of U.S. playing the underdog role: 'Let's go for it!'!

I read this earlier. Jurgen has been getting a lot of undue shit lately for how his team has performed at various smaller stages, particularly is tinkering of the lineup. But you know what? We've seen very clearly that he gets his team's ready to play on the biggest stages.

I like his style. He's very cerebral. He's going to tweak this, and try new ideas here and there because he knows in the end we have the quality, but he needs to see new things. He doesn't give a shit because he has the bigger picture in mind, and when the time comes he's going to execute his plan he's been building and he's going to have his team ready. How many times did we see Arena's or Bradley's teams crush CONCACAF minnows and breeze through the gold cup only to be consistently outclassed when facing European teams (particularly on European soil) or on the big stages such the World Cup? Jurgen has beaten soccer powers such as Germany at home, and Holland and Italy on their own soil, and not their C teams either.

We saw it in the World Cup, and we're seeing it again at the second biggest possible stage this team can play on. Now he's got this team primed for a semifinal run after winning their group which included the #3 ranked team in the world (for whatever FIFA rankings are worth) in the second biggest tournament we can play in, and the doubters and naysayers can STFU. I don't give a flying fuck if they lay an egg against Guatemala occasionally because of his tinkering as long as he has us qualified for the big stage, and ready to compete against the best when we're there. Yes going to the confederations cup would've been nice, but you know what? That ain't that big of a tournament. It falls behind the Copa America and ahead of the Gold Cup. Kinsman is the man for this job and anyone too dense to see that needs to stick to something else.

I suppose we might want Peru to win because we would potential face one of these two teams in the semifinals, right?

No you're wrong. We can only face the Peru/Brazil vs Colombia winner in a possible finals. We will be on opposite sides of the bracket. We're going to face the winner of Argentina vs Mexico/Venezuela in the semis assuming we beat Ecuador

Nope if I remember that game is in Houston. Still would be a shitload of Mexican fans if that is who we play in the semis
