Seriously though....tell me.....as a first year coach at Nebraska how do you honestly get 18 year old kids to want to come to this place?

It's tough. It's like getting an 18 year old from Cali or Texas to say "yea.....you know what?.....I want to go to the middle of nowhere because that place was good 20 years ago."

It's like trying to get kids from the coast to WANT to move to South Dakota. I mean, it's not far off. Yea, it's neat to us that we were awesome decades ago.....but these little shits weren't even a sparkle in their daddy's eye then. They don't give a shit about our history.

Plain and simple, the next successful coach here (if there ever is one) will be the one who can turn 3-star players into 4-star players......so that we can start recruiting 4-star players.

i'm with JJM on this. i have way more faith in this staff with the experience they have than almost everyone on the old staff. i also have way more faith in Phillips than i ever had in the old guy (i've seem to have already forgot his name.)

none of these kids have even played their senior year yet, so if they have a good year and actually improve those Power 5 offers will probably come, especially when the other schools are trying to fill their classes and hopefully MR and company does a good job of keeping these kids committed at that point.

Of note on Bootle and Wilson...

Bootle camped at the satellite camp and impressed with his speed and fluid hips. Because of the quality of players at CB already in the system he was one that the coaches felt they could take a chance on and develop. His speed is second to none (clocked at sub 4.4 electronically at the camp) and he's flexible in the hips and coachable kid. The coaches know he's a project and they're okay with it.

Wilson is being recruited purely as a Center. This is going to be different than how Bo and Co managed things. I think coach Cav wants to bring in at least two guards, two tackles and a center every class (room permitting). Scout has Wilson as the #3 ranked Center in the nation, so he's a good pick up.
