Have you guys ever thought about how this trade could backfire against the Pelicans? What if Cousins leave next summer? They would have gave up their 2016 and 2017 1st round picks for a guy who stayed for a little more than a year and likely didn't reward them with a title

Worth the risk. Davis has an opt out in 2020 anyway so you either could bust with this trade or bust with the draft hoping guys develop in time. You're at least letting Davis you know you'll make moves to win. Might as well swing for the fences. It's not often a franchise like them has a top 10 player available to them

Tough for Miami to get the attention of NBA players and their families.
"heatupdates" LOL

the guy is not even on your team anymore!!! lol, that is humiliating- and the other guy is at odds with your front office.

I get it- Dion Waiters and Hassan Whiteside arent quite- cover of the program material, but cmon, at least get some guys that actually PLAY on the team.

Yeah, but Jimmy Butler is an all star level player and he's only 27, so he's got a few good years left. He's also the type of player who could attract good FA's.
If I were to guess they are using the Lakers as leverage against Boston to get the assets they really want---- but we shall see.

some interesting ones:

The Clippers are still kicking the tires on everything, including their pipedream of snaring Carmelo Anthony from the Kazoos without giving up any of their core four guys. They've called about almost every available small forward type, but no one is in a rush to take Jamal Crawford, Austin Rivers, and a distant first-round pick. That won't get them Wilson Chandler, and the Wiz threw their phones on the floor when the Clippers inquired about Otto Porter, per league sources.

Boston could contend now and later by dealing some of its chips for an in-his-prime stud under contract, which is why they've zeroed in on Jimmy Butler and Paul George. Snag one, and Boston could still open more than $25 million in cap space this summer if they renounce their rights to Kelly Olynyk. That's not quite enough for a veteran max deal, but the Celtics could sniff that territory if they shed Jordan Mickey and Terry Rozier, convince overseas guys to stay abroad one more year, or get lucky with an unexpected cap bump next season. (Note: If any of those variables flip the wrong way, Boston can't quite get there as constituted.)

New rules and a new financial reality hover over this deadline. After leaping from $63 million in 2014-15 to $94 million this season, the cap is set to flatten out at just over $100 million in both 2017-18 and 2018-19, per the league's latest projections. Teams who lavished players with mega-deals over the last two summers could find themselves trapped in 2018 and 2019, as guys on cheapo rookie deals graduate to mammoth veteran contracts. First-round picks, minimum salaries, and cap holds will all be fatter under the new deal.

Several reports have linked the Wiz to Lou Williams, and Washington has indeed explored trading a protected first-round pick for the king of the 2-for-1. That makes me a little queasy, despite Williams' monster season and an affordable $7 million contract that runs through 2017-18 -- big for a capped-out team with limited means to boost the roster in free agency. Williams' game doesn't hold up as well in the playoffs, when referees don't buy his flailing and opponents pick at his defense over and over. He doesn't move the needle enough toward Cleveland territory to justify sending out a precious chance at nabbing a cheap young player.

Right. He LOVES Chicago, but spends all his free time in Miami.
Humiliating would be paying him 25M to watch him not play.

Again, you missed the point.
My best guess is South Beach is loaded with NBA players right now.

The 'other guy' is doing exactly what he should be.
Avoiding any bodily contact except with his wife (and he better be careful and not let her on top).

I don't think you would find anyone in basketball who is against Miami when it comes to the Bosh situation. Guess Wiggy is all for watching players die on the basketball court.

ya know why its hard t otake you seriously- and so ironic that you call me a homer--- posts like this from 2015----

Turnuptheheat- Jan. of 2015

As far as the Heat, we currently have 3 young players that might be keepers.
I think everyone if happy with Whiteside.
Ennis has all the tools. Shabazz has talent.

Next, other than Bosh, the Heat has 2010 type flexibility in 2016.
With the new projected salary caps, they could for sure sign a player, and probably 2 who would earn more than him.

2016....Shabazz and Ennis...lol....cmon dude...

Actually if you watched games, Ennis is ok. Nothing game changing but he'll be on someone's bench.
Shabazz, whatever, was that post made a month into his rookie season?

You were raving on the Cavs Summer League 'stars' in July.

Try again.

My issue here is you're stalking of turnup. This post was in January 2015. 3 months or so of watching Shabazz and Ennis play. Napier had his moments early in the season. I still like Ennis as a player. Solid role player and he has now improved his game.

As for the Heat flexibility in 2016, I think anyone with a brain knows that if Bosh was healthy that Miami would have had a much higher chance of landing a big fish. Bosh blood clots kinda killed everything.

do you think a team can actually win in the NBA with Whiteside as its #1 or #2 player?

do you think its a good idea to shackle your team to a guy taking up a quarter of your payroll who cant shoot, and cant pass- in a league where practically every team is trying to get smaller- trying to space the floor more- trying to run more?

This isnt the 90's where Rileys brand of ugly-muck-it-up basketball made for one of the most putrid era's in NBA basketball history- its like he still thinks its the 90's--- low scoring teams- dont score many points, dont give up many points, a center that cant shoot, cant pass...low scoring- mediocre to bad three point shooting

this is just a TERRIBLE way to build a team in todays NBA- not only that- but its hideous basketball to watch.

YAH 3 months of watching Ennis and Napier play- 2 pretty much nonprospects- and hes trying to include them in them as future building blocks

its like if i talked up McRaee and Felder as the future of the Cavs....its delusional and ridiculous homer bullshit on a level that I WOULD never even approach. Its humiliating.

2016- where are the big free agents? Where are NApier and Ennis? LOL. gmafb

Win what?
Heat was 1 win short of ECF with Whiteside minus Bosh.
But, no, if he's your best player, you aren't winning a title.

Not sure what your point is because nobody said he could ever lead a team to a title.

As we all see, you have stars colliding lead by a mega star, which aren't just floating freely around.

Whiteside is a stud NBA player though and will make any team he is on that much better.

Did anyone know about Bosh blood clots in January 2015? Simple yes or no question?

Napier obviously was a disappointment but Ennis is a solid 8th or 9th player. Plays solid defense and can do a lot of the little things that doesn't show up in the box score.

Also if you only took 2 seconds of your life to look at Napier game log from his first few months with Miami then you would understand why that comment was made. At one point he went 6 straight games in double figures and this was as a bench player.
