The trades Danny made during that period were just friggin amazing. That Suns trade looks even better. And I have not even started discussing the Nets Trade

Yeah, for awhile there, I had no idea what the hell he was doing (I think even some Celtics fans were unsure) and it was starting to look like a clusterfuck (and I talked some shit about it too).

But it's now looking like there was a definite method to his madness and the Celtics look to be a player or 2 away from being back in contention. If the Bulls are truly open to trading Butler and the C's don't have to give up too much to get him, that may do the trick.

Probably, but you need to pretty much suck to be in that position.

Therefore, those types of teams that don't suck need to find other ways.

Having the top players now or recently , means you prob have little to no assets to fall back on for quite some time.

Heat had to give up most everything to give the Big 3 the sign and trades, and Cavs have dumped pretty much every asset they are allowed.
yah- and the Heat doubled down-

instead of going into a rebuild they tried to keep it going and traded for Dragic and gave up 2 extremely lightly proected 1st rounders.

now if the HEat would have let Bosh go to Houston, dealt Wade to Chicago, used their cap space to take some other teams problem contracts in exchange for draft picks- you woudlnt be looking at a future when you have NO IDEA when you will be good again.

Maybe you hit on that 2.0% chance of getting a star outside the top half of the lotto. Maybe you sign Blake Griffin or DeMarcus Cousins- but chances are - you wont.

The only way to do it and do it the right way- is to do what the Thunder did, what the Cavs did, what hte Sixers are doing, what hte Lakers are doing to a certain extent.....bottoming out, collecting a ton of assets.

If a big time player became avaliable on teh trade market right now- Miami would have ZERO CHANCE AT THEM. THEY WOULD HAVE ZERO CHANCE AT A BIG TIME FREE AGENT if they came on the market right now.

who would have a chance? teams that have bottomed out and have a ton of assets- the Celtics, the Nuggets, the Sixers, the Twolves.

he is on a 5 year contract...lol.....you gonna wait around 5 years for a guy that has a TON of options and may just choose to take the HUGE FINANCIAL ADVANTAGE of staying at home.

Its possible 1 or 2 of the highest level guys move--- of course there will still be guys that leave--- but it will happen even LESS frequently then it has- which is already pretty much never.

Are you factoring in endorsements when you talk finances?
Winning is worth a TON to players/companies when they are choosing who represents them.

In other words, taking less NBA salary can actually greatly increase your bankroll.

If Riley had a crystal ball about blood clots and everything else your post wouldn't come off as quite so ignorant.

Riley is against a rebuild that would take 3-4 years- and doing it right- becuase he is too old and would never see its conclusion- so he tried to short cut the process.

whoever is left holding the bag after he leaves is going to inherit a mediocre team with very limited assets.

he has no CHANCE at trading for a high level guy. ZERO...no team in their right mind trading a star would engage Miami any time soon. They just dont have NEARLY the assets other teams do.

My point is, a "franchise" player , playing for a shitty franchise isn't winning anything.

FA/Trades have always been the key to building championship teams.

Of course having some youth and high draft picks help, but its not that easy to consolidate all of that.

I think the whole "no one is going to leave because of the new CBA" narrative may be a bit overblown. As you point out, a franchise player on a shitty team isn't winning any titles.

So, while the difference in money teams can offer will definitely make leaving a much tougher decision, at the end of the day, if a player is truly about winning titles, they will take the pay cut and go to a team with a chance to win.

After all, when one considers how many millions they'll be paid anyway, how much is it really going to effect their lifestyle?

Who said the Heat were in any position to trade for a 'high level guy'?

they arent. They arent in a position to trade for one. They do not have NEARLY the assets. They are destroying their position to draft one- especially since they owe out 2 first rounders to the Suns.

When draft and trade are eliminated as options- what do you have; free agency?

there only shot anytime soon is hitting a home run in free agency- and convincing a guy to take WAAAAAAAY less money to go there- when that guy will A. be able to make a LOT more money at home or B. go to a situation that is a LOT more ready to win than Miami is.

Yeah nice win for sure Vyle. The bench is really stepping up with all our injuries in play. Smart is starting to play at another level..............
Agreed. Im curious what the deal is with Bradley. Wondering if they are just being cautious with him or if he might be on the trading block.

@WiggyRuss ,

So on a note of real importance, any long term concern for Love?

Could back issues be forcing him to compensate which caused knee issues?

What's really odd IMO is that he looked the best he ever had vs the Wizards...then this.

if i were to rank the teams in the NBA on the level of their assets and players....Miami would have to be near the bottom

their best players are; Dragic, Winslow, Whiteside, Tyler Johnson,

First rounders- they own their '17, their '19, and '20 pick. They owe out picks to the suns in '18 and '21.

The Heat have ZERO 2nd round picks until the 2022 draft season.

that is as bad a collection of talent/draft assets as their is in the entire NBA outside of Brooklyn and its really not even close.

Whatever's going on I hope he'll be healthy for the playoffs. And if he is on the trading block how about Bradley for Butler? Oh hell him for any top tier SG would be just fine.

i have no clue. The Cavs were not saying yesterday and reports are just coming out today. It came as a surprise to me as well.

I thought resting him these next 2 games and giving him the All Star break - almost 2 full weeks- would be enough- but apparently there is more to it.

ill definitely have my eye on any info the Cavs release. If its just general soreness and swelling thats one thing. They havenst said there is anything structurally wrong that woudl require offseason surgery that they expeect him to play though- which would be the worst scenario.
