We just took 2 guys that won't play much in year one. Im so confused. How do you pass on Strong, Rowe, or at least maxi Williams. Safety is not a need. This kid won't be able to start until Year 2 or 3. Man this sucks.

Perhaps Reids health and Wards health/progression is more troublesome than anticipated... I dunno.

Reid says he good and in his best shape. This pick makes no sense. We drafted 3 Safety's in the last 2 years either in rd 1 or rd 2. This isn't a need.

Maybe an Evil Balke plan so the Niners draft around 15 again next year to bulk up on young players drafted somewhat high......Semi-Tank..... or He's just High!

Baalke is making some bad picks. He is picking guys that won't help us this year and maybe not next year.

He might be high. he is doing a really bad job in my opinion. We have so many other needs and he picks another safety. that Reid, Ward and now tarrt. Makes no sense. I guess Baalke is admitting that he screwed up on Ward.

Could Tartt be intended to be a CB like Ward was?

Well Ward isnt a safety he is our nickel CB. I hate the Tartt pick but maybe he is drafting him to be our future safety for Bethea.

STRENGTHS
Well-built with impressive overall size. Gets downhill quickly from high safety to mix it up in run support. Takes good angles to ball carriers and is an aggressive tackler. Willing to play through pain and compete. Fierce competitor. Plays with confident, clear eyes to diagnose and handle his responsibilities. Attacks the ball at point of catch to disrupt wide receiver and dislodge the pass.
WEAKNESSES
Gets caught staring into backfield as a single high safety. Will let post routes get behind him and doesn't feature recovery speed to get back into that play. Becomes over-aggressive in space and will overrun tackles. Limited man-cover ability.
DRAFT PROJECTION
Round 3 or 4
NFL COMPARISON
Barry Church
BOTTOM LINE
Tartt has terrific size and is a physical tackler but he must show that he can handle coverage responsibilities. Despite playing 2-deep and single-high coverage, Tartt's size and aggressiveness as a tackler might be best utilized around the line of scrimmage or in a "robber" scheme. Tartt has the size, athleticism and overall talent to be an NFL starter.

Yes if Baalke is admitting Ward was a bad pick. That would make things worse.

We just drafted 2 projects with our 1st 2 picks. Just bad.

Ok but that won't be for at least 2 years. U don't draft a guy to start 3 years from now in the 2nd rd. This kids projection was 3rd to 4th rd. Some even had him in the 5th rd.

Yes but when we drafted him Baalke mention that Ward might become a safety. They drafted him thinking about putting him at safety. Nickel CB was just to get him on the field.

LOL Tartt just said he was shocked he was drafted in the 2nd rd. he thought 3rd or 4th rd he would get drafted.

Sidenote: he is best friends with Ward.

k I will say some positives on this Pick and about Tartt. Simms is saying that he is the best safety on the team and he is saying he will start in year 2. He said this kid has tons of talent. He is fast and a hard hitter at the safety position. At the Sr bowl he looked like one of the most talented kids playing.

So if u want upside their you go. Simms also stated he will see the field this year.

I was on the drive home when I heard it. I am like many, WTF? Are the 49ers opening a department store for safeties? This is the kind of pick that should get you fired if it doesn't work out. IF you are going to reach for a player that isn't even a need, he better turn out real good.
