Sitting on your hands really isn't an option.
How's all the assets the 76ers accumulated working out?

Cavs got lucky between lotto balls and Nike forming a money making/ good publicity campaign sending James home.
The master plan that you seem to think happen, never did.

Wasn't Gilbert and the Cavs front office the bunch that thought signing Bynum a couple years ago was a prudent idea?

A harmless flyer ... similar to what the Heat did with Eddie Curry & Oden.

From an article this morning:

...

The Sixers, of course, know how to lose. For the third straight year, Philadelphia is leveraging its disinterest in competitiveness to amass assets. Instead of wasting cap space on players like Hibbert, Bass and Williams, the Sixers leave space open to soak up problem contracts for other teams. This service has a price, and the price is typically a draft pick or two. Consider this: the Lakers are spending $26 million in cap space on Hibbert, Williams and Bass. The Sixers are spending $22 million in cap space on the waived contracts of JaVale McGee and Gerald Wallace.

The Lakers didn't give up any assets (other than unleveraged opportunity cost) in acquiring the three veterans. But in soaking up McGee and Wallace, the Sixers also acquired a protected first-round pick and a swap option. This may not amount to much in the end (swap options are a bit useless right now for a team as bad as Philadelphia), but it shows an understanding of how NBA rebuilding works. Nothing L.A. has done gives confidence they understand or are willing to accept this reality.

EXACTLY.

The players dumped to the Sixers were Jason Thompson and Carl Landry. By taking Thompson and Landry- who make about a combined 12 million this year- (while next year Landry makes about 7 and Thompson has a 2M buy out).....

So- for taking Thompson and Landry at about 12 million this year- and 7 million next year- the Sixers get a protected first round pick, 2 pick swaps, and Nick Stauskas- a good young SG.

It baffles me the Lakers wouldnt get in on this. I mean they SIGNED Brandon Bass- instead of signing Bass just take Thompson and Landry- you GET a 1st rounder and Stauskas and some pick swaps in case you ever get good!

Like the article says- it just shows a clear lack at the top of management to understand opportunities in the league.

and that is funny with Wallace and Mcgee too- its the same thing- take a bad contract from the Celtics get a pick, take a bad contract from the Nuggets- get a pick.

yup....

when the Lakers wanted to dump salary (Luke WAlton)- Gilbert had no problem helping the Buss' out with their payroll problems- just gotta give them some draft pick considerations

Gilbert will take on Baron Davis near 40+ million dollars left on his deal- just gimme an unprotected lotto pick.

Hey Grizz- well help ya get under the luxury tax and take Speights and Ellington- just give us a first round pick.

because ya know- typically during a rebuilding phase you want to acquire EXTRA first round picks- instead of owing them out to half the league. lol. And if you have an owner that will pay some other teams mistakes (like Walton or Davis) in order to get their picks then you will have a jump start to that rebuilding- instead of being saddled with owing picks.

and again- gotta give Gilbert/Grant/Griffin allthe credit in the world. Went from having a bare cupboard to being title favorites!!!

NOW THAT IS HOW YOU REBUILD! :thumb:

That's exactly what they did when they acquired Jeremy Lin before last season. They haven't traded away any first round draft picks since this "rebuild" was started.

The 76ers have been "rebuilding" for how long now? Are they really any good at it? They look like a lottery team once again. It's easy to say that the Lakers should have done this or that which Philly did. That's speculative because we don't know if those same opportunities were available to the Lakers.

It was clear that a true "rebuild" for the Lakers, following the Nash/Howard failure, would take several years. They traded several first rounders to form that group. It put them seriously behind the "rebuild" ball. It's not an apples to apples comparison with the 76ers.

I agree.

Not only that, but, the 76ers brand is totally in the toilet.

I'm not sure what the penalty should be for their type of tanking. But, the way they do business is suspect.

What player in free agency do you see taking them seriously when they would rather pay McGee and Gerald Wallace 26 mil to get cut, rather than split that money amongst the guys that ensured that clusterfuck all Season long?

They are gonna have to pay max money to even attract a 4th tier player.

The Lakers are in far better shape.

Hindsight is 20/20.

But, you also have to remember the Kings, as an Organization, despise the Lakers dating back to the CWebb\ Vlade days.

* not as much as they currently hate the Clippers*

Who's to say they were willing to do business with them?

Remember: most Teams don't help division rivals.

Exactly. We don't work in the front offices, so we don't know what trade opportunities may have been out there.

Yep.

To put it in a way that Cavs fans can understand.....

The Lakers were to Vlade's Kings, what The Jordan era Bulls were to the Ehlo's Cavaliers...

No soup * championship* for you!!!

They dumped them on Philly because they knew it wouldn't come back to bite them directly on the ass.

Most Teams want to send their castoffs to another Conference.

So, there is no way they would trade within their division unless they had to.

the facts are beyond simple

in 4 years the Cavs totally rebuilt the team into a loaded title contender.

anything else is just noise and jealousy.
Noise and Jealousy? I'm sure it's pretty easy to type that when you're someone who isn't even a constant fan of the team...I'm sure once LeBron retires then you'll most likely jump ship again. Weren't you an OKC fan and then decided to go back to the Cavs once Bron came back?

You're the worst type of NBA fan, honestly. You only stick around when it's good and then when you find something better, you go to that. Stick to one team for at least 5-10 years CONSISTENTLY and then get back with that "noise and jealousy" bullshit. You honestly make the TRUE fans of the Cavaliers and teams in the NBA look bad.

Before you say "Why can't I like two teams?" Because you DON'T like two teams. You like when they're winning and don't give a shit when they're losing. Either that or make up lame ass excuses as to why they lost.

Man, Splitter is an excellent passer. This guy is fitting in quite well with the Hawks.

Yeah, that's one part of his game that's gonna be missed in San Antonio. His defense is another. The offensive end never worked out for him in SA though. I'll still miss him. Love Tiago.

He's played some good defense on Wade too tonight.
