Beltre did fine with nobody worth a damn behind him last year. Aj protects nobody. Your leadoff guy is far more important than your fifth hitter. I can't believe we're even having this discussion.

I can't believe people think protection is a myth.

I don't think the gap is as far apart as you do. Depends on the team and the depth in the line-up. Choo would be the type of upgrade that would make a bigger difference than most. We need both really. I think we would be ok adding a lead-off hitter or middle of the order bat though.

It's pretty simple. Your lead off man is far more important than your fifth hitter. Period.

I'm not convinced it's a myth, but I am convinced that we need Choo far more than we need someone to protect Beltre

We struggled more when Nelly got suspended than we did when Ian was hurt.
I'm not saying Nelly is more valuable than Choo. I would rather have Choo, or both. I just don't think the gap is as wide as you do.

talk about oversimplifying the argument, there was more going on than just Cruz being suspended

Choo's on base skills would make the Fielder trade that much better. Really hope they can come to an agreeable number

Like I said it depends on the team and who the leadoff hitter and the 5 hole hitter is. I bet the Tigers would say Martinez was more important to their success than Jackson.

That's because Jackson isn't a good leadoff hitter. If you put choo in that lineup and then ask them which one they'd drop off they had to, there's no doubt in my mind the answer is choo stays.

Isn't that what I've been saying? It depends on the lead-off hitter and 5 hole hitter. That's why I don't think you can say 1 is "far more" important.

Go back and read what I said. I said Choo is the type of lead-off hitter that would make a bigger difference than most.

Tired of talking about it.

Before signing with the Braves for $4MM with an additional $4.5MM in incentives, starter Gavin Floyd reportedly turned down a two-year offer from the Orioles that could have reached $20MM in value with incentives, reports Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun

Left a lot of money on the table, but I guess he wants to build his value up. He better hope he has a good year

So you agree that adding choo helps our team far more than Cruz. Thanks, that's what I've been saying.

Having a quality leadoff hitter is much more important than having a five hole hitter with some pop.

Choo #1 & Rios #5 >>>>>>>>>>>> Martin/Andrus #1 & Cruz #5

Your first sentence is what I've been saying too, except not "far more"

You can't just stop there with the argument though. Having Rios at the 5 means we're very weak at the bottom of the line-up.

Choo Martin
EA EA
Fielder Fielder
Beltre Beltre
Rios Cruz
Moreland Rios
Soto Moreland
Profar Soto
Martin Profar

Maybe it's just me but I don't see a huge difference in the amount of runs we would score. The bottom of the line-up will struggle if we don't add another middle of the order bat.

It won't space the line-ups next to each other.

I don't see much difference in the bottoms of those 2 lineups, i do see a huge dropoff in the leadoff spot though

How do you not? Choo is going to get on base a hell of a lot more= more chances to score. Look go many rbis Phillips got with choo hitting in front of him
