In Beltre we trust.
Mehhhhh
I would take a healthy Shaun Marcum. Dude had a nasty change a few years ago.

Wouldn't you rather just gamble with Colby? Although I wouldn't mind a marcum signing he's solid when healthy of course
You're asking me if I would rather have no competition for the 5th spot?
Thanks for getting the jest of the comment. Carroll was an example.
I'm asking if you desperately want marcum
Why does it have to be desperate? If the guy was healthy he would be a reasonably priced 5th starter.
Totally gagree. If he's right and healthy he is a damn fine pitcher. I hope we land him.

I don't know why 8 seasons was chosen as a baseline but...
The league-wide slugging percentage has dropped 36 points over the past eight seasons from .432 to .396.
Then someone else did the research and found out the average fastball Velo over the last 8 seasons as well.
Starters: 90.0 to 91.3
Relievers: 91.3 to 92.5
Interesting correlation at least to me.
Maybe 8 seasons ago is when the trend started?

Maybe so, but with no actual context I don't know what it all means. I haven't seen the data from the segments of time before to know if it's cyclical or not. If this really is a trend going forward and fastball velo is also slowly rising, then power bats like Cruz are going to be more and more expensive regardless of their lack of defense and average.
I looked, not really a noticeable trend started then
But last year's SLG% was the lowest its been since 1992 (.377) then it jumped to .403 in 1993 and wasn't below .400 again until 2011 (.399)
WAIT, RG3! There's your leadoff
That's some lazy writing then. I don't know who wrote that original quote, because I never saw the citation. Well so much for that idea.
