Not to sure yet. I can tell you that Hanson doesn't excite me too much and I would have preferred it to be a minor league deal b/c now I think they will have to make room for him on the roster. I think we still may have better options internally in Tepsch, Ross, or even Lewis. But who knows Maddux is great pitching coach and maybe he can find a way to get Hanson back to where he once was. If that ends up being the case- it would be a great deal especially for a #5 starter. I think they will find a place for him in the pen, maybe the long guy, if he doesn't get the 5 spot though.

Yea agree ... going to the pen like Oswalt. That worked out great.

UGH, Hanson...fingers crossed.
No DH really, but we had big needs and I think, overall, JD handled it well

I love baseball and I love this dang team, for better or worse
Season getting closer, that's the BEST news

I'd rather see Tepesch as #5 rather than Jason Jennings 2.0.

Tepesch, Lewis and Hanson are all barely #5 material but we are going to end up with 2 of these 3 in our rotation which is not a comforting thought in my book

You are right as the original intent of the DH has disappeared. There are some like Ortiz who have done well at it but we really do not have anyone who truly fits the DH role. Someone who loves to hit and would be glad just to get their ABs. But then again most teams don't.

Where's a Paul Molitor or Edgar Martinez when you need him? Hell I'd bet someone on this board 20 bucks that we could bring Vlad out of retirement and he could do better at DH then Moreland.

How will we have two? It's possible, I suppose if they beat someone out in ST, but right now you have to figure the first four spots are locked up: Yu, Harrison, Ogando, and Perez.

I am counting on Tepesch to show an improvement this year. He has been exposed now to MLB and should take advantage of the 2013 experience.

I am right there with you on that thought.

Oh I know. I just didn't know at what capacity.

I reread what I said and should have said common sense should have told us that Ryan would end up with the Astros. Sounded too personal the other way. My bad.

I would also say guys like Dunn, Vmart, Mauer (might play some 1B though), Morales, Carter,Encarnacion, and Bulter fit the mold pretty well. Although some of them like Dunn and Carter SO a ton and are really just pure power guys. But that's only like half of the teams in the AL-so the rest of the teams in league pretty much have this non-traditional style DH thing going on. I think its great if the DH can do other things but like you both have mentioned, the DH really should be one of your top bats.

Mauer is going to be at 1B A LOT this year, and he's so athletic he'd be wasted at DH

I am expecting Harrison to have a semi slow return to the starting rotation. Let's keep in mind he hasn't faced major league hitters in almost a year. But if he comes back to form by mid season, Holland gets well, Ogando maintains his health and Perez stays his growth course, we could have a really solid group for years actually.

And yes, I know that's a lot of "if's and maybe's" for the first half. But then again, maybe Ross, Kirkman, Lewis surprises us too.
