The New Orleans Pelicans sold the naming rights to their arena which is now the Smoothie King Center.

Elvis is on the fan. They asked if he is going to feel pressure to be the next leader on the team. He said I'll never be Mr. Ranger. That is Michael Young.

I love this kid. I hope we don't trade him when Odor is ready. I guess it would be next year and maybe Beltre moves to DH.

Yup, everytime I read or see him do an interview, he's a class act

I bet the Rangers have ppl working on getting some Shakespeare puns ready for this season.

A midsummer nights game here at the Globe...

'Feliz was a little shaky in the ninth, but alls well that ends well'

This defense is practically a comedy of errors.

I'm ready, gonna have a little fun with it

Keith Law says this guy just missed his top 100.

Alex Gonzalez, RHP | Texas Rangers
Top 2013 level: High Class A (Myrtle Beach)

"Chi-Chi" was the Rangers' first pick in the 2013 draft, an Oral Roberts product with a swing-and-miss cutter and a capacity to generate ground balls. His delivery is simple and his fastball is solid-average at 90-93, so he has mid-rotation starter potential, but the moderate 6-foot-2, 195-pound build means the 22-year-old doesn't have a ton of upside and fell a little short of the main list.

I read this and thought "future shutdown closer".

Someone give me your best guess on why the Rangers wouldn't have resigned Jeff Baker? He sure signed for a "modest" contract in FL. Relatively speaking in the world of baseball finance, this is pennies.

Hard to say. His after the injury stats were bad but the financial risk was low. Maybe they want to use someone else they already have in house. I also see that Arroyo is looking at 2yrs/$22 mill.

I cut him some slack when he came back. After all, his main value is his bat, and he was coming back from a hand injury. Pretty tough to use the stick with a weak hand. I looked at it as a very low risk.

My problem with Arroyo is how prone to the fly ball he is. This was discussed earlier and I had asked about his propensity to throw the long ball. Several folks gave some fairly compelling stats.

Maybe it wasn't our offer that was bad, but theirs was better. Rangers might have wanted him back, but as a backup/utility/spot guy and he wanted more playing time. I would have loved to have him here, but if all else is similar but there is a better chance for him to play elsewhere that might have been why we lost out.

I'll be interested to hear how it played out over the next month or so. I'm sure some info will come out about if we tried to really sign him again.

side note, it's been a couple of days since the last Cruz to SEA articles. It's about time for someone to write another fluff piece about it :)

I like Arroyo because he's durable, but I would much rather have Yoon or Burnett.

I am with you on Burnett but I am still up in the air on Yoon until I know how his health is.

BAL is the new Texas, and that isn't a shot at them taking our rejects. They are now getting lumped into the conversation for all remaining FA's since they have announced they still have money to spend. All agents are going to say "Baltimore still interested" to keep interest and price up. :yahoo:

You're probably right. The money might not have been the true stumbling block, but playing time sure could have.

It's only 5 million per year.

how in the world would that be "the second highest" in the league which was reported in the other thread?
Then you read 5-10 on lonestarball

if it were closer to 10 for 10 years, that's 100mil (obviously) and worth it.
I would be dissapointed if it were only 5, I know an extra 50 over 10 years is still good, but REALLY...if your going to sell the name, get more money, I don't understand

Do you have a confirmation on the amount?
