Interesting read Xx. I take what these analysts think in any sport with a grain of salt even when we ranked at the top in the minors. Just want to see them produce at the big league level when their time comes. I have never seen Edwards but man the guy must be built like a bean pole.

Read that AJ Burnett isn't necessarily done this year and open to a different team than the Pirates.

It sounds, without me spending the tiny energy to look it up, like he is a true FA. If so, then could that be our #5?

That will depend very much on how other teams get involved.

true, but I'd think he would be happy with a one year deal so I'd be ok overpaying a bit. Or loading the contract with an average base salary and then some big incentives that are attainable.

I mentioned this last night and I would be for it as he eats a lot of innings up but he has been just so-so in the AL especially those last couple of years with the Yankees. But he was very good for the Pirates and maybe he would be comfortable here.

He would be a solid candidate for the rotation....but I wouldnt put him at #5 per-say.

That being said, his wife has a fear of flying (they live in MD)... so I doubt he would come play here.

As for why a player would block a deal to the Angels but not the Pirates, Burnett’s wife is from Maryland and has a fear of flying.

See Baltimore is also in the mix along with Philly. But I think we have a better shot of being in the playoffs than those 2 teams so maybe it would be something he would consider. I see he is one of the top ground all pitchers in MLB.

I doubt Burnetts wife would say no to a 1 or 2 year deal anywhere, if the money is there. It's not like they would have to move. He'll be home half the season anyways

I agree with this...


That said, the Cruz news. Would he be willing to be DH the entire time? The OF is jammed as it is.
IMO, a 1yr deal w/Texas for Cruz makes sense for him. It would provide him the best atmosphere to show he can "hit without PED's" and make him one of the better free agent bats on the market next offseason.

I am not finding that Cruz story anywhere. He would be smart to do a 1 year deal and with Texas in order to improve his situation since he has hit well here. Rumors again of Seattle being interested but I would think his numbers would decline playing there.
