I like it. He did a very good job last year and this gives us another year to groom his replacement, whomever that may be.

Fuck Raiola! I don't care that he doesn't seem shitty compared to Manny Ramirez.

I don't ever recall anyone claiming he was the best center ever. Maybe the "dig" belongs to your favorite website "Pro Football Focus" for him grading out as the 2nd best Center in 2013, behind Cleveland's Alex Mack

This will always be hilarious to me. I hope Caldwell doesn't try to reign in Ravioli too much. And what's wrong with calling girls cute?

He's a top 5 C for sure if not no.1. So I've been told. We'll see what he does with a coach more interested in offense than personalized crotch pants.

I've been a big backer of Raiola his entire career. 2nd or 3rd best Millen pick.

Lol- I think we've found our new Drama Department captain.

Talk about taking people's words/thoughts and then stretching them to TMZ-esque levels to try to get a reaction...

I guess I just don't get the appeal of being inflammatory for the sake of being inflammatory?

Man, I'm not trying to be a dick but I love the salary cap analysis probably more than anyone on here, and you seem to like to post a lot on that topic. Unfortunately, most of what you post isn't correct. Just like this one.

There is a huge difference between the cap hit of a player and what he was actually paid. Those "bonuses" you are referring to were paid in the years prior, not in 2013. This is because my favorite GM and his drunk friend chose to restructure pretty much every single players contract on the team who didn't play for the vet minimums, including Raiola. The "bonuses" were dead money on the contract. It counts against the cap but its not what he was paid. He got a $1m salary (and possibly a $250k roster bonus but that isn't showing in the reported 2013 cap hit).

No idea just how much his "raise" will be but its from $1m, not $3m.

Dr. Evil-er... No offense taken by/from you at all... I'm a fan of the salary cap and while I obviously lack your knowledge of it, Spotrac reported Raiola's 2013 contract as follows

base 1 mil.... signing bonus 700k.... misc bonus 1,312,500..... cap hit 3,012,500....
over the cap had reported the same to the best of my knowledge. In 2010 he had an option bonus of 5.25 mil that paid out over 4 yrs. = 1,312,500 per yr for 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013. He did have a roster bonus of 250k in 2013 and his base pay was reduced in 2013 from 4.05 mil to 1 mil... Please, correct me if I'm wrong and I didn't take your comment as being a dick

His cap hit was $3,012,500 but that isn't what he was paid. They are very different numbers. He was paid only $1m in 2013, which was his salary.

The $700k is money allocated against the cap as one fifth of the $3.5m signing bonus on the five yr deal he signed in 2009. He got all of that $3.5m right then. The option bonus is allocated the same. He received the full $5.25m as part of his 2010 compensation but only 1/4 of it (that's the $1.3125m) counted against the cap. In the year where he got the signing bonus and the year when he got the option bonus he was actually paid well more than his cap hit. Last year was the exact reversal of that.

In 2013 he had no bonuses (just disregard the $250k roster bonus since I believe it was actually removed as part of the reduced salary he took, if it wasn't it would reflect in his cap number, which it is not). All he was paid was his salary. The amortizing portions of both his signing bonus from 2009 and his option bonus from 2010 still count against the cap but aren't part of his 2013 comp.

So when they are reporting that he is getting a significant raise over his 2013 pay that is based off only the $1m he was actually paid, not the $3m cap hit he had.

It was YOU! You love Ravioli.

I don't know why, but when I read this, I thought of the play-doh dick.

Went through the laughter, tears streaming down my face, the whole bit, all over again.

I don't love Ravioli at all, but during our argument over whether the Lions had possibly the best o-line in the NFL last year I used PFF's ranking of Dom as the 2nd best center in the league last year in support of my stance, and now it's evolved into what you posted above.

It's hard to infer tone on these boards, so I'm probably being overly sensitive, but it bothers me a lot when there are some positive aspects of this team to discuss, but those of us that want to do that are ridiculed by the haters who don't care to dig any deeper than our team's overall record...

Everyone isn't going to agree on just whether or not those aspects are positive. That is actually what should lead to a good discussion. But it doesn't on here.

That's because dissenting opinions are immediately lambasted, and not with an intelligent rebuttal but with insults. This board is fractioned very much into differing groups where a non-conforming opinion isn't welcomed or respected.

Look at your own post where you refer to the "haters". Those are actually just people who don't see things the same way. If you think "haters" invade conversations where guys want to talk about a positive aspect lets not even try and pretend that the "homer optimists" (that's pretty much how the board has divided and there isn't another more polite name to identify them) don't invade conversations where a negative aspect is trying to be discussed with the same ridicule.

I don't know if it started when TrustMe was unrelentingly (and unjustifiably) bashed for his opinions last summer or at some other time, but it's turned to a bag of shit discussion board when every thread is filled with a moronic e-fight.

A heartfelt apology from me to TrustMe since I was part of that garbage last summer.

Dude, you're on one my most favorite people on the planet. Been pals like 10 years now. The board is fun and so is ragging on Ravioli.

It does. And maybe anyone who thinks their research is gospel. But I'm a self entertainer at heart so it's all in the name of harmless fun.
