Was just thinking about this, I know there are some real good players that they can take at 17, but I would consider moving back to 21 at STL's spot and get the 33rd pick in a deal too

What would you think of that?

My comments were based on what Hextall has said - that the Flyers are looking for players with size who can skate. That rules out Ehlers and Nylander. I don't know squat about Fleury, but if the Flyers believe he can be a top pairing d-man I can see them trading up for him. Now, I'm not saying the Flyers wouldn't jump on Ehlers or Nylander at 17, just that I don't see them trading up for one of those guys. Unlike Holmgren I believe Hextall has a plan, and we can look to the Kings to see it.

With Hextall's comments taken into consideration (Trading up, size and skating, top 6 forward, top 10) that sounds like Virtanen, Ritchie, or Perlini

It doesn't hurt the Kings to have a guy named Quick back there either.

Agreed but most of their forwards back check like mad which sucks the life out of most teams.the Flyers need more of this...

Bill Meltzer points out that when Hextall says there's a big drop-off after the top 10, he's referring to the FLYERS top 10, which isn't necessarily the same top 10 that we keep reading about. The Flyers will have to judge whether or not any of THEIR top 10 will still be there at 17, and if not will look to trade up. But, much like Morin seemed like a bit of a reach at 11 last year, the Flyers may be evaluating some players differently than the conventional "wisdom" of the analysts.

Would anyone take the local kid Anthony DeAngelo in the 2nd round? I was reading on broadstreethockey.com site and read that he has some issues. It sounds like he has a ton of talent. I don't know a ton about him? Anyone more familiar w this kid?

He's projected as a late 1st/early 2nd round puck, so if he's still there at 48 I'd take him in a heartbeat.

He was suspended twice for slurs directed at teammates. TWICE.

Los Angeles Kings: 2014 NHL Draft Prospect Anthony DeAngelo Worth Risk

Yes to DeAngelo. Hell I'd take him in the first. Wouldn't be my top choice but we could do worse.

I wouldn't take him in the first, but maybe later on

I'd move up in the 2nd to grab him. He may be redundant with Ghost is the pipeline but having a glut of offensive defensemen isn't a bad thing.

My issue with him is that he seems to have an attitude problem, kind of like Josh Ho-Sang - you have to be careful with guys like that

The curious case of controversial NHL prospect Joshua Ho-Sang | SIMMONS | Hockey

Ho-Sang seems delusional, borderline insane. I'd take him after the 2nd round, but he just seems a bit too insane for me. I like cockiness and swagger (It is part of the reason I've had a hard on for Subban for some time) but in Ho-Sang's case it is kind of pathetic. With DeAngelo it comes off as more of a hot headed heat of the moment thing that should (hopefully) change with maturity.

I'm ready for this friggin draft to go down. I'm looking forward to Hexy's first draft as a Flyer. I sense something big will happen either today up until the draft. What's everyone's beverage of choice during the draft? I'm going w Beck's Dark.

I know they'd like to do something big but I don't see them having the pieces to do so - I'd rather see them trade down with St. Louis and get picks 21 and 33 - that would give them 21, 33, 48, 86, 107, 138, 168 & 198

@garylawless: Wouldn't be surprised if Ron Hextall and the @NHLFlyers steal the show on Friday night and trade up to 1 and draft Ekblad #nhl

I'm guessing this is more speculation based off of Philadelphia hosting and how the Flyers always try to make a splash, but still

Won't happen - where they are at(17) and what they'd have to trade to get to number 1(Sean Couturier), it won't happen and it shouldn't

The better bet as I've said before is to trade down with St. Louis and get 21 and 33

You can't be trying to hit homeruns every year, sometimes you have to take singles and doubles

I like your idea of trading down with St. Louis but with how jumbled up basically all picks are after the top 10 or so St. Louis will really have to like a guy to jump up 4 spots.

I could really go anyway at this point whether we're trading up, down, or staying put. I have no idea what to expect
